As an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in enhancing the learning experience for students enrolled in BIOL 1611. This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop your teaching skills and contribute to the academic community. You will work closely with faculty members and graduate teaching assistants to ensure a supportive and engaging learning environment for students.  Successful applicants will have completed BIOL 1611 and BIOL 1711 with high marks.  Preference will be given to students who have also completed CHEM 1013 and CHEM 1023 (or the transfer equivalents) and/or who have expressed an interest in serving as an undergraduate teaching assistant.



Responsibilities
  • Assist in the delivery of lecture and laboratory components for BIOL 1611.
  • Provide individual and group tutoring sessions to help students understand course material.
  • Grade assignments and provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Monitor student progress and identify areas where additional support may be needed.
  • Attend regular meetings with the course instructor to discuss teaching strategies and student performance.
  • Prepare and deliver interactive workshops or study sessions to reinforce key concepts.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and participation.
  • Collaborate with other teaching assistants to share best practices and ensure consistency in teaching approaches.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in the field of biological science to enhance your teaching methods.


Qualifications
  • Completion of BIOL 1603, BIOL 1703, CHEM 1013, and CHEM 1023 or equivalent transfer credit.
  • Excellent academic standing with a strong foundation in biological science.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students and faculty.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
  • Passion for teaching and a commitment to supporting student learning.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software or tools for grading and record-keeping.
  • Previous experience as a teaching assistant or tutor is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Willingness to undergo training and attend professional development workshops.
  • Flexibility to adapt teaching methods based on student needs and learning styles.
