Student Employee - Construction Technology Intern

Internship Summary:

The Construction Technology Intern will assist the Construction Technology Department Chair and Instructors, while receiving hands-on training in all aspects of the residential construction trade.  The intern will have the opportunity to work with various specialty contractors such as electricians, plumbers, and heating and cooling contractors.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• 
  Assist with equipment maintenance, repair, changing blades, as well as shop and outbuilding maintenance and repair.


• 
  Responsible for keeping shop orderly by sorting and organizing materials.


• 
  Grounds and general site maintenance: snow removal and de-icing in winter, as well as yard care and landscaping in spring.


• 
  Carpentry with ongoing projects, community service opportunities, and miscellaneous carpentry on student house project.


• 
  Assist in completion of siding on community bathroom building


• 
  Offer assistance in additional community service trades related projects.


• 
  Assist instructor by preparing materials and equipment for class activities


• 
  When appropriate, offer technical support with student instruction and participate in class activities.


• 
  Maintain all required safety standards.


• 
  Respect for the confidentiality of all information received.


• 
  Demonstrate personal integrity, sound judgement, and dependability.


• 
  Maintain a professional demeanor while representing BMCC.


• 
  Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of the position description.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• 
  Must have the ability to communicate effectively with others.


• 
  Ability to use protective safety equipment.


• 
  Must have excellent work history and attendance record as demonstrated by past employment references.

Physical Requirements:

• 
  Physical ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, hold, reach, push, pull, lift, and carry heavy items, with or without accommodation.

  Potential repeated exposure to loid noises, cold or hot temperatures, extreme weather conditions, dust, or dirt.

Paid Internship Eligibility Requirements

• 
  Must be a degree-seeking student at Bay Mills Community College.


• 
  Must have Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined in BMCC’s Student Handbook:

    Grade Point Average of 2.0 (cumulative)
  
  
  • 
    Successful completion of 67% of credits attempted at BMCC on a cumulative basis.
  
  
  
  


• 
  Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits in the semester the paid internship will be awarded.


• 
  Must have attendance of 70% or higher in all classes.


• 
  Eligibility requirements must be met at the beginning of each semester.
