POSITION PURPOSE





This position is located at our Headquarters building in Bismarck, ND.


 


This position is for the summer months of 2027 (approximately May 17, 2027 through August 20, 2027).


 


This temporary position assists the IT Security team in protecting the organization's information systems, networks, applications, and data. The position supports cybersecurity operations through monitoring, analysis, security tool administration, and project-based work. The intern will gain hands-on experience with enterprise security technologies and processes while assisting with the identification, investigation, and remediation of cybersecurity risk







 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


  • Assist with monitoring security alerts and events from cybersecurity tools and platforms.

  • Support vulnerability management activities, including identification, tracking, and remediation efforts.

  • Assist with identity and access management processes, including user access reviews and privileged access controls.

  • Support security projects involving tools such as endpoint protection, security monitoring, certificate lifecycle management, and cloud security solutions.

  • Assist with security assessments, audits, compliance activities, and documentation efforts.

  • Research emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices.

  • Help develop and maintain security procedures, standards, and awareness materials.

  • Support vulnerability management activities, including vulnerability scanning, reporting, tracking remediation efforts, and validating corrective actions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Be enrolled as a full-time student in a two year Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or related discipline program with at least 1 year completed, or recent graduate (within the past 12 months).


OR



  • Be enrolled as a full-time student in a four-year Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, an Engineering Accreditation Commission/ Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) Computer Engineering program, or a related field with at least two years completed.

  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.

  • Hold a valid driver’s license.

  • Transcript required at time of application. If your transcript is not attached at time of application, your application will not be reviewed.


 


This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position, which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Previous internship or relevant work experience.

  • Additional certifications or coursework in field of study.
     

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS






This position requires frequent sitting, standing, and walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures, and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines. This position uses small hand tools. This position requires finger dexterity, good hearing, and color vision, the ability to perform close work, and the ability to speak. The incumbent must be able to analyze data and reports, conduct research, and implement recommendations. This position occasionally works in conditions of dirt and dust, fumes, chemicals, extreme heat and cold, vibration, and noise. The person may be required to operate a motor vehicle or fly in Cooperative or commercial aircraft.

Wage: $21.50-$23.50 per hour
