Job Description - STUDENT-Research Assistant- MATH
Description
The student research assistant will support the initial development of a new research project in computational social choice theory, an interdisciplinary field at the intersection of computer science, mathematics, economics, and political science. The primary responsibility will be to conduct a structured review of the scholarly literature in the area. The student will begin by learning foundational concepts in social choice theory through assigned readings and guidance from the faculty supervisor, then progressively develop familiarity with current research topics and methodologies.
After completing this initial background work, the student will identify, locate, and read relevant research articles, prepare brief summaries of key findings and open questions, and share promising directions for further investigation. The goal of the position is to help map the existing literature, identify areas where meaningful undergraduate research projects could be developed, and assist the faculty supervisor in evaluating potential avenues for future research. The position requires strong reading and analytical skills, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to learn unfamiliar technical material independently.
