Summer Camp Counselor

Camp ClapHans and J.D. McCarty is looking for Camp Counselor to join our team for the summer. This a camp for children with disabilities and is an outreach program of the J.D. McCarty Center.  You'll get to work with campers as they participate in many exciting activities.

This will be a great experience for anyone to gain working knowledge in the field of Intellectual Developmental Disabilities. Join us for the summer and have a great adventure!
Camper check-in time begins at 1pm on Sunday.
Work schedule is Monday through Wednesday and shift begins at 7am to 10pm.  Overnight stays are required during each camp session. 

Job Summary:

Actively participate in all program areas as assigned.
Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development and respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment of youth.
Assist in program areas such as waterfront, nature, all camp activities, and arts and crafts as directed.
Assure campers are properly supervised at all times.
Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
Cell phone usage is limited to your 2-hour break, to avoid distraction and to allow for the camper and yourself to get the full camp experience.
Ensure that campers receive their medications as directed by health care manager.
Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
Maintain the confidentiality of each camper’s personal and health information both during and after camp.
Provide the daily care of each camper within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs such as hygiene, dressing, feeding, etc.
Reside at the camp during operational hours and take all meals with the campers.
Responsible for leading and assisting with the teaching of activities for campers.

Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age or high school graduate.
Clearance of background check and drug screen.
Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR.
Must submit health history record and examination form prior to first day of work.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Ability to interact with all age levels and children with special needs.
