Summer Intern

Location: Lexington, KY

Schedule: 8 week program starting June 2, 2025

Compensation: $2,500 stipend

The Summer Intern will work directly within their chosen focus area, supporting department initiatives and gaining comprehensive exposure to a healthcare-focused non-profit environment. Interns will assist with both department-specific projects and cross-functional activities, helping to enhance Bluegrass Care Navigators’ (BCN) service delivery, and organizational impact. This internship offers the opportunity to develop practical skills, engage in mission-centered work, and build professional relationships within a supportive, inclusive organization. 

Requirements

  1. Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university as a Junior, Senior, or Graduate student with a major or career interest in Healthcare Administration or Marketing. 
  2. Demonstrates interest in healthcare and a commitment to supporting diverse communities.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including staff, community members, and other interns, both verbally and in writing.
  4. Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage workload in a dynamic work environment.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and a willingness to learn department-specific tools or software.
  6. Motivated, flexible, and capable of working both independently and as part of a diverse team.
  7. Student Intern will be expected to comply with Bluegrass Care Navigators (BCN) Employee Health, infectious disease, and vaccination policies.
  8. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile in good working order, that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements, with personal auto liability insurance in compliance with the state insurance laws governing liability, property damage, and bodily injury.

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Participates actively in projects related to the chosen field, contributing to key stages from planning to implementation. Tasks may include data analysis, drafting reports, content creation, and supporting team meetings.
  2. Collaborates with department staff to develop solutions, document outcomes, and measure the effectiveness of initiatives, gaining practical, real-world experience in healthcare administration or marketing.
  3. Completes weekly reports detailing tasks, accomplishments, and lessons learned. Uses these reports to track progress and reflect on areas for improvement.
  4. Creates a portfolio of work completed during the internship, including summaries of projects, reflections, and any presentation materials. This portfolio will serve as the basis for a final presentation to BCN leadership and colleagues at the conclusion of the program.
  5. Attends professional development workshops covering essential skills such as personal branding, resume building, interview preparation, and effective communication.
  6. Engages in networking events and learning sessions with healthcare professionals and industry leaders, expanding industry knowledge and understanding of healthcare careers.
  7. Regularly meets with a designated mentor to discuss career goals, program progress, and personal development with feedback on performance and advice on next steps.
  8. This position may require the team member to drive occasionally for work.
  9. Must have satisfactory references from professors and/or employers.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
