Job Description - Summer Intern - Western Region

Young Invincibles seeks a motivated college student to serve as a Western Summer Intern supporting youth engagement, policy research, and organizational development efforts across California. This internship is designed as a hands-on learning experience that exposes students to nonprofit leadership, youth organizing, and public policy advocacy.

The intern will contribute to active projects while developing practical skills in research, communications, event planning, and stakeholder engagement.

Duration: 8 Weeks - June 10 - August 12, 2026

This internship is an unpaid opportunity eligible for college credit

Core Responsibilities

Youth Engagement & Programming Support

  • Assist with outreach to young adults and alumni through email, digital communications, and event recruitment efforts.
  • Support logistics for workshops, trainings, and youth leadership programs (materials preparation, tracking RSVPs, post-event follow-up).
  • Help collect and organize participant feedback and engagement data.
  • Provide meeting notes and summaries for internal and youth-facing meetings.

Policy Research & Advocacy Support

  • Conduct background research on policy issues affecting young adults (higher education, workforce, health access).
  • Draft short research summaries, fact sheets, or briefing memos for internal use.
  • Support survey distribution and assist in summarizing findings to inform advocacy strategy.
  • Attend coalition or policy meetings as appropriate for learning exposure.

Development & Organizational Support

  • Support drafting components of grant proposals or reports, such as program summaries, impact highlights, or youth story integrations.
  • Help compile data, metrics, and testimonials for fundraising materials.
  • Observe and, when appropriate, participate in funder briefings or strategy discussions to learn about relationship-building and stewardship.

Capstone Project

During the internship, the student will complete a structured capstone project aligned with one primary focus area: engagement, policy research, or development. In collaboration with their supervisor, the intern will identify a meaningful project that contributes to current team priorities.

Examples may include developing a policy brief, analyzing survey data and presenting findings, designing an engagement strategy for a target audience, or creating a fundraising support tool.

The intern will present their project, key insights, and reflections to the Western team at the conclusion of the internship.

Learning Goals

By the end of the internship, the student will:

  • Understand how youth engagement connects to policy and systems change.
  • Gain experience in nonprofit program coordination and event support.
  • Develop foundational policy research and writing skills.
  • Learn how development and fundraising align with advocacy and program work.
  • Strengthen professional communication, time management, and collaboration skills.
