JOB TITLE: Summer Youth Intern 

DIVISION: Community Services Division

REPORTS TO: CSD Outreach Coordinator 

POSITION STATUS: Part-time, Non-exempt

JOB CLASS: Job Grade 1 

APPROVED: April 2022

SUMMARY: The Summer Youth Internship is designed to teach our youth the exciting work at AVCP. The summer interns will learn about Tribes and tribal governance, compacting, and tribal sovereignty over families, lands, and resources. This is a paid internship and there will be work activities every day in our Tribal Services Department, Workforce Development Department, Tribal Courts, ICWA, Healthy Families and more. 

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: including the following and other duties as assigned. 

•     Participate fully in daily work activities including making phone calls, filing, and other office work. 
•     Engage thoughtfully in discussions. 
•     Prepare communications messages that promote AVCP’s programs. 
•     Participate in workshop planning with Healthy Families staff and Elders 
•     Maintain strict confidentiality of the department and client information. 
•     Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Familiarity with Yup’ik lifestyles and the AVCP region is strongly preferred. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, the individual should have a working knowledge of: 

•     Basic workplace attitude calm, focused and engaged; 
•     Workplace appropriate casual dress (no ripped jeans); 
•     The ability to travel to sites within AVCP region and out of region as needed.
