The Operations Rotational Intern position is designed for students or recent graduates seeking hands-on exposure to multiple functional areas within SIT's operations and commercial teams. This role provides structured rotations through key departments to develop a broad understanding of manufacturing, quality systems, project execution, customer support, and operational excellence. The intern will support day-to-day departmental activities, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and complete a capstone operational improvement project during the internship.
As an intern, you will be part of the Campus Ambassador Program which provides an opportunity to network with interns from our sister companies, travel to other facilities, and present projects you've worked on over the summer to top leadership. We value interns as the future of our company and we work hard to ensure you have meaningful projects throughout the summer.
Specific Responsibilities
Quality / HSE – Support quality inspections, documentation reviews, non-conformance reporting, audits, and compliance activities while participating in continuous improvement and risk assessment initiatives aligned with ISO 9001 and HSE requirements.
Logistics – Assist with shipping and receiving documentation, inventory transactions, cycle counts, and material tracking while coordinating with production and contracts teams to ensure timely material availability.
Production – Support shop scheduling, work order tracking, assembly, testing, and documentation activities while participating in workflow improvement projects focused on efficiency, throughput, and quality.
Contracts – Assist contract administrators with project documentation, purchase order tracking, schedule updates, job closeout documentation, and ERP transactions to support schedule, cost, and quality objectives.
Technical Sales – Support quoting, customer follow-up, product research, vendor communication, and proposal preparation while participating in customer solution development and internal coordination with engineering and operations teams.
Support and participate in the organization's continual improvement program to conform to ISO 9001 requirements.
Other duties as assigned.
Education
Must be currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of an undergraduate degree program; Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Distribution, or a related technical field preferred.
Prefer GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Knowledge and Skills
Ability to work independently and eagerly take on responsibilities across varied functional areas.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Experience with ERP systems or engineering software a plus.
Hands-on mechanical aptitude a plus.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual thinking skills.
Excellent communication skills (including oral, written, and relationship building).
As contracts with the U.S. government have required this position to be held by a U.S. citizen, please confirm status as a U.S. citizen.
