Job Description - Teaching Assistant


Job Summary
 

  • Location: Teachers Assistants and staff at High Jump will work in person at 1 of 3 campuses 
    • University of Chicago Lab Schools (5835 South Kimbark Ave, Chicago, IL 60637) 
    • Latin School of Chicago (59 W North Blvd, Chicago, IL 60610)
    • Francis W. Parker (330 W Webster Ave, Chicago, IL 60614)
  • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Summer session classes run Monday through Friday and are tentatively scheduled as follows: 
    • Dates: June 29 - July 31st (with the exception of July 3rd)
    • Time:  7:30am - 3:00pm. 
    • Professional Development: We require 2 days of in-person professional development for all teachers and staff, please tentatively hold the following dates: June 25-26th, 2026.
      • Additional training and staff meetings may be required and will be communicated during onboarding.
 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Each TA will support 5 sections of students each day for 60 minutes each (there is a 5 minute movement/transition break between periods).
  • In addition to assisting the teacher and students in the classroom, TAs will supervise breakfast and lunch. Lunch will be split in two sections depending on the cohort. As one cohort is eating lunch, the other cohort will attend gym for a movement period. Cohorts then switch halfway. TAs are expected to assist with arrival and dismissal procedures as outlined at their specific campus and take attendance d uring each class.
  • TAs will attend weekly faculty meetings as indicated in the professional development schedule. 


Qualifications and Skills

  • Must be an alumni of High Jump 
  • Must be 16 years of age
  • Strong commitment to working with middle school students 
  • A willingness to learn, collaborate, and accept feedback 
  • Ability to take on responsibilities such as assisting with small group lessons, arrival/dismissal, and supervision of students 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build rapport with middle and high school age students, and attend all sessions
