Position Overview
Yale University’s Transport, Receiving & Storage (TR&S) Department is excited to offer an internship opportunity for New Haven Promise Scholars seeking hands-on experience in logistics and operations. The TR&S Department supports Yale University departments and schools through moves, storage, ground transportation, courier services, and shipping & receiving. The West Campus Storage & Receiving Center (SRC), a 243,000 square-foot, secure, climate-controlled facility, provides fee-based storage for Yale departments and schools.

Reporting to the TR&S Operations Manager, the intern will assist with inventory management, storage space organization, and operational tasks at the SRC. This internship is ideal for individuals eager to learn about logistics, inventory systems, and the operational backbone of a major research university.

Key Responsibilities
The TR&S Intern will engage in various activities, including but not limited to:

  • Assisting with inventory tracking and storage space identification at the SRC.
  • Identifying, labeling, and documenting storage spaces and delivery locations across the West Campus.
  • Using Microsoft Excel to maintain inventory records, update data, and generate reports.
  • Supporting shipping, receiving, and storage logistics, including organizing storage areas.
  • Collaborating with the TR&S team to ensure efficient and accurate operations.
  • Providing administrative support, such as updating operational documents and coordinating tasks.
  • Completing ad hoc duties as assigned to support TR&S operations.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Currently rising sophomore, junior, or senior enrolled in an undergraduate program.
  • Strong interest in logistics, operations, inventory management, or data organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., data entry, basic formulas, and reporting).
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to handle sensitive departmental information confidentially.
  • Experience with data management tools or basic logistics software.
