Denver Botanic Gardens is currently seeking a Volunteer Services Intern in our Volunteer Services Department! Read below to see if the requirements might be a good fit for you:
Position Summary
Denver Botanic Gardens Volunteer Program strives to cultivate fulfilling and mission driven volunteer contributions rooted in community, connection, trust, and impact. These pillars guide all aspects of organizational volunteer efforts and highlight our commitment to all Gardens volunteers. The position promotes a positive image of Denver Botanic Gardens to the community and potential volunteers through active outreach and recruitment and proactively recruits volunteers for appropriate positions. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required. Reliable transportation to and from York Street and Chatfield Farms locations is required.
Requirements
General Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborates with departments within Denver Botanic Gardens to develop partnerships, assess volunteering needs, and understand how they function.
Supports, motivates, and connects with volunteers and staff to ensure program success.
Promotes and implements the Volunteer Services Pillars of Programing (Community, Connection, Trust, Impact) and volunteer engagement best practices.
Supports teen volunteer program at Denver Botanic Gardens.
Supports efforts to share the impacts of volunteer engagement throughout Denver Botanic Gardens.
Develops and supports group and community volunteer opportunities.
Supports volunteer engagement initiatives – plan, develop, implement, and promote as needed.
Conducts research on best practices related to volunteer onboarding and orientation.
Regular attendance at the worksite may be required. As with all positions at Denver Botanic Gardens, the incumbent must be in good performance standing to be eligible for remote work. Remote work is at the discretion of management at all times.

Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have strong creativity and organizational skills.
Ability to pay attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Ability to work evenings, holidays, and weekend hours.
Ability to travel to and from York Street and Chatfield Farms locations.
Must have excellent communication skills to include writing, public speaking, and networking.
MSU Denver students encouraged to apply and may be eligible to continued employment following the internship given the Gardens’ status as a work study department of the university.
Must have proven excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills in dealing with the public.
Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations.
Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans, when necessary, throughout the day.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.
Ability to work overtime as necessary.
Must be a positive representative of the Gardens both internally and externally at all times.
Must work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and the public.
Must be committed to working safely at all times.
Experience/Education:
High school diploma / GED and/or combination of education and equivalent experience is required.
Experience working with diverse audiences.
Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
Travel:
Up to 10% travel required. Requires the ability to travel to remote locations (or other Garden locations) where environment may vary significantly.
