The Circulation Assistant provides frontline customer service at the library's main service desk and supports library operations more broadly, including project work that may take place away from the desk. This role reports directly to the Access Services Supervisor.
Responsibilities
Check materials in and out using the library's circulation system (currently Alma)
Answer patron questions about library services and policies
Monitor study areas and shelve returned materials, including pushing loaded book carts and shelving at various heights
Answer phones and direct inquiries as needed
Assist with opening and closing procedures
Report facilities, safety, or security concerns to library staff
Support special projects and tasks away from the desk as assigned
Use additional library systems as needed — training provided on all systems
Qualifications
Currently enrolled student in good academic standing
Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Strong communication skills; comfortable learning new software systems
Committed to professional customer service
Ability to stand, bend, reach, and push loaded carts for extended periods; reasonable accommodations available upon request
Schedule
Semester schedules are typically finalized very early in the semester and may shift during midterms and finals. Because this position provides shift coverage for teammates (illness, competitions, etc.), we're looking for candidates with broad, open availability across evenings and weekends — the more flexible your schedule, the stronger your fit. Maximum 20 hours/week per university policy; most students work fewer.
