Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

The pharmacy intern program at Fred Hutch is a structured, 3-4 year continuous program designed to assure that the intern, upon completion of the intern program in conjunction with an accredited PharmD program, will be able to carry-out all of the functions required to perform distribution as well as supportive clinical duties in an ambulatory oncology setting. The interns will work closely with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy residents, and other healthcare professionals. Each year of the program has designated expectations and goals that build upon the last and correspond with each professional year of pharmacy school. By the end of the internship it is expected but not limited that interns be trained in the following areas sterile compounding, pyxis, investigational drug services. Interns will receive clinical exposure and education that will facilitate the development of the critical thinking skills necessary for contemporary practice.

Responsibilities

  • Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Sterile Compounding
  • Pyxis Refilling
  • Investigational Drug Services
  • Retail Pharmacy Dispensing
  • Counseling Patients
  • Prepares, packages, and labels medication in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Charging and billing functions
  • Operates CII safe and follows all controlled substance procedures
  • Filling and documentation of pyxis, emergency/code boxes and code trays
  • Monitors stock for expiration dates and removes outdates
  • Medication reconciliation
  • Delivery of patient specific medications to infusion or other areas of the clinic
  • Other pharmacy related duties in accordance with regulations under Washing State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission

Qualifications

Required:

  • Enrolled in University of Washington School of Pharmacy
  • Pharmacy Intern License
  • Time Management
  • Travel
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner
  • Accurate and aseptic IV admixture preparation
  • Able to perform basic pharmaceutical calculations
  • Ability to use a mouse, navigate computer programs, enter data into computer systems accurately and efficiently.
  • Familiarity with the generic names of drugs along with the basic indication

The hourly pay range for this position is from $23.04 to $25.65 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
