Dr. Ruth Etzioni’s group at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is seeking a highly motivated student interested in biostatistics. Dr. Etzioni’s group focuses on the development of methods for evaluating diagnostic tests, creating mathematical models to reflect the impact of screening tests on the incidence and mortality rates of these cancers, calculating the costs and benefits of preventive screening, and tracks population trends with regard to screening and related behaviors.

The intern will engage in mentored projects at the interface of quantitative and biomedical science with particular projects dependent upon the interests of the intern. The intern will also code regression models in R and develop an R Shiny interface to share their results. 

 

The interns will be mentored by Dr. Etzioni and lab members (staff and graduate students). This experience in cancer research will include some training in the skills needed for carrying out the projects. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program 
• Interest in using computer, mathematics, and statistical tools in biomedical applications 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Prior programming experience (e.g., C++, Python, JAVA, or R) is helpful
• Previous experience working in a biostatistical research groups

The hourly pay range for this position is from $18.75 to $24.71 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
