Job Description Summary

The Military DoD SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects Service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. Separating Service members can be granted up to 180 days of permissive duty to focus solely on training full-time with approved industry partners after unit commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) provides written authorization and approval. GE Aviation as a Skill Bridge partner offers real-world training and work experience in in-demand fields of work while having the opportunity to evaluate the Service member’s suitability for the work. Military DoD SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from GE Aviation, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members.

Job Description Summary

The Mechanical Engineer develops, implements, and supports processes for the manufacturing of aircraft electrical power generating assemblies for military and civil applications. In this position you will be responsible for establishing manufacturing processes, leading continuous improvement projects, and driving root cause and corrective action activities for multiple product lines.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Maintain, support and improve the manufacturing processes for multiple product lines with a focus on improving production yield. Additional responsibilities include:
  • Troubleshoot product failures to determine root cause and corrective action.
  • Use production and quality data to drive and implement process improvements to reduce costs and losses.
  • Drive and lead impact projects using LEAN or Six Sigma tools that result in significant process improvements.
  • Lead cycle time improvements, cost of quality (COQ), and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) actions.
  • Manage multiple projects by providing scheduling, resource management, budget control and EHS compliance.
  • Collaborate with the design engineering team to improve product manufacturability.
  • Ensure documentation for manufacturing processes, engineering designs and technical data is accurate and kept up to date.
  • Design necessary tooling & fixtures for manufacturing and process improvements.
  • Ensure manufacturing tooling, fixtures and processes are ESD and EHS compliant per site policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Active Military personnel

Desired Characteristics

  • Knowledge of aerospace electronic systems, production methods and processes
  • Strong electrical aptitude
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Six Sigma training or preferred quality training
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
