Job Description - Occupational Therapist - Part-Time

As a Part-Time Occupational Therapist for our School-Based program, you will be an essential part of our school team by providing services to build children with the capacity to meet the diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students grades K-12 (majority being elementary) in Tacoma with some traveling to South King County region. Becoming one of our Occupational Therapists you will be a valued member of our school based team who collaborates with our students, families, and community partners to remove barriers and build safe and healthy environments for academic success.

  • Provide initial assessments and reassessments for students with occupational therapy needs
  • Work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team with teachers, therapists, other specialists/educational staff, and program leadership
  • Foster strong therapeutic relationships with students that support engagement at school and in progress towards individualized goals
  • Provide occupational therapy screenings and assessments to identify students with service needs
  • Perform all duties related to the development and management of student IEPs such as assessment, monitoring present levels of performance, goal-setting, implementation of classroom accommodations and modifications, and progress reporting and updates
  • Work with assigned students to develop their gross and fine motor skills, sensory motor regulations, posture, movement, and/or to meet other individualized goals
  • Provide OT related consultation and training for teachers and other school staff on strategies to support student goal attainment or school engagement
  • Assist in providing in-service training to parents, teachers, administrators and other professionals and paraprofessionals regarding topics related to occupational therapy
  • Assist in coordinating, communicating and seeking consultation with community agencies as appropriate
  • Utilize crisis communication and de-escalation techniques as per Seneca's crisis response training. This may include intervening with the clients' behavioral program through physical management of the clients, if applicable. Training in additional crisis intervention modalities may be required
  • Contribute to a strong school culture by participating in or leading small group, classroom, or school-wide activities for students that celebrate success and promote joy
  • Complete required data collection and service documentation for plan development and to measure the effectiveness of services, inform team decision making, and/or engage in service billing

REQUIRED

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in occupational therapy
  • Current license by the Washington Board of Occupational Therapy
  • Washington Educational Staff Associate (ESA) for public schools (Can obtain after hire)
  • NBCOT Certification preferred but not necessary
  • Clearance of TB test, fingerprinting, and any other State/Federal requirements
  • Own vehicle, valid Driver's License, and insurance
  • Ability to travel to different school sites within Tacoma and South King County region
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination

PREFERRED

  • Experience in the school setting or pediatric occupational therapy experience preferred but not required
  • PART-TIME 24hrs per week
  • Monday - Friday, 8:00am -4:00pm school hours
  • School year calendar with paid school breaks
  • Starting at $37.63 - $44.36 hourly
    • As of July 7th , this starting range will increase to $38.76 - $45.49
  • Actual salary is dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role 
  • Salary increases each year
  • $2,000 sign-on bonus
  • Additional compensation upon passing bilingual language exam
