Lecturer Part-time, Geopolitical Relations

Position Description

The Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington (Seattle) invites applications for a 50% Part-time Lecturer. This is a non-tenure-track position with a 9-month (mid-September through mid-June) service period. The initial appointment, with an anticipated start date of September 16, 2024, will be for 2 years with the possibility of renewal.

The Jackson School brings a distinctive intellectual lens to questions of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We model socially inclusive approaches to addressing practical problems in the world today through applied research opportunities that connect students to grassroots communities, policy communities, and transnational actors. We train students to work inclusively and to understand the significance of linguistic, religious, and cultural literacy. Our work de-centers U.S.-centric conceptions of the world and confronts the historical legacies of colonialism as well as inequalities within and between nation-states. Our vision of public engagement has a strong emphasis on equity, justice, human rights, and respect for the histories and knowledge of diverse peoples and places across national borders.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in energy studies, security analysis, and international relations, with a focus on the intersection of these fields. They should be well-versed in the complexities of energy sources, technologies, environmental impacts, security threats, and geopolitical trends. Candidates should have a strong familiarity with issues and realities concerning the Global English Language and its role in science, scholarship, business, and diplomacy.

Washington State Law requires that this ad list a binding salary range. The appointment will be 50% FTE at 50% of the full-time rate. The full-time base salary range for this position will be $4670 - $7,137 per month, prorated based on the appointment FTE, and commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or foreign equivalent. or conferred on persons who have special instructional roles.
• 5 years of experience teaching Global Energy Policy, Geopolitics and Global English
