Full Job Description
Do you want to make a difference in the work that you do? As a Mental Health Technician, you will make a difference every day! Pay starts at $20.00/hour and is $21.00/hour for fully certified MHRT1 candidates. We will provide continued opportunities for you to grow and learn in a Mission-driven organization! Volunteers of America will pay for training in this field, and employees receive an increase in pay for each training competed (up to MHRT1 certification). We also provide an additional $1.50/hour for weekend shifts (11 pm Friday-11pm Sunday). The Mental Health Technician works in a residential setting and provides direct care while assisting clients in acquiring and maintaining independence, socialization, and adaptive skills necessary to reside successfully in the community. This position promotes a safe and healthy living environment and increases and capabilities of clients within the policies and procedures of the agency while ensuring the protection of individual rights. Volunteers of America offers all employees competitive pay rates and paid training. Qualifications: 1. High School Diploma required; college education in relevant discipline or experience working within the behavioral health field preferred. Proof of education will be required upon hire. 2. Knowledge of basic life skills, understanding of community resources, implementation of individual training plans, and documentation of care preferred; 3. Ability to self-motivate and initiate work independently as well as exhibit teamwork and work effectively with all members of the team; 4. Willingness to engage with clients and utilize appropriate de-escalation strategies when clients are in crisis; 5. Excellent communication skills, including active listening, written, oral and record-keeping skills; 6. Strong relationship building skills, with the ability to exhibit compassion and patience; 7. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; 8. Valid Maine driver's license within 30 days of employment and transportation required. The employee must have a good driving record and at least 3 years of driving experience to transport clients using their vehicle; 9. Per the state of Maine regulations, all behavioral health and IDD employees will be required to submit proof of immunization records upon employment for the following: MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and COVID-19.
