Yu Ming Charter School is a non-profit, tuition-free network of public schools located in Oakland and San Leandro and open to all residents of California. As a leader in Mandarin Immersion education, our mission is to nurture our inclusive and diverse community to become empowered, engaged, and outstanding global citizens. OVERVIEW

The English Reading Tutor will provide short, focused, daily literacy instruction to kindergarten and first-grade students. Each session will last 15 minutes and target foundational reading skills to help students build early literacy proficiency. They will follow a structured, research-based curriculum to ensure consistency and alignment with school-wide reading goals. In addition, tutors will receive weekly coaching and feedback to strengthen instructional practices and maximize student growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide individualized, daily tutoring sessions (15 minutes each) in reading for assigned K–1 students.


• Use provided instructional materials and strategies to ensure consistency 


• Maintain a positive, encouraging learning environment that fosters student confidence and engagement.


• Video record each tutoring session for coach to review


• Meet with coach weekly to receive feedback to improve tutoring sessions 


• Communicate regularly with the supervisor about student progress, challenges, and successes.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Native proficiency in English reading and speaking


• HS Diploma

Preferred

• 1-2 years of experience in tutoring or school environments

TIME COMMITMENT

9-12 hours weekly, around 3-5pm

COMPENSATION

$20-23/hour based on experience
