5th - 8th Grade Instrumental Teacher

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced 5th - 8th Grade Fine Arts (Instrumental) teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible to educate, direct, and produce all 5-8 instrumental music classes and performances and perform assigned teacher duties on the Tempe campus.

Job Summary:

The 5th - 8th Grade Fine Arts (Instrumental) teacher is one who displays a deep knowledge of Scripture and teaching instrumental from a Biblical perspective. This includes an ability to demonstrate a passion for ministering to students. The teacher must be a professing and maturing Christian enthusiastically supporting Valley Christian's Statement of Faith and mission statements.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Develop and grow instrumental program (Band, Strings) to include performances/chapels 
• Teach and grow 5th -6th grade Strings and Band
• Teach and grow 7th – 8th grade Strings and Band
• Connect with Fine Arts Director for K-12 alignment
• Participate in student life on campus
• Display a deep knowledge of fine arts instruction (instrumental music) to teach it from a Biblical perspective
• Display the ability to connect Biblical truth to students’ lives
• Demonstrate a passion for ministering to students through teaching, counseling, encouragement, and mentoring
• Maintain a healthy learning environment for the students in the classroom by using appropriate enforcement of student behavior rules
• Attend professional development workshops provided by Valley Christian Schools
• Exercise open and respectful communication with students, families, co-workers, and supervisors
• Adheres to and honors Valley Christians standards, policies, procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook
• Performs other related assigned duties

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

• Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that serves as a consistent testimony to others

• Faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with our school’s Mission & Beliefs.
• Attain ACSI Standard Certification within one year of employment
• Must have and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint card
• Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver license
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel
• Ability to multi-task with organization and without direct supervision
• Meets deadlines; completes work in a timely manner; strives to increase productivity and establish/maintain academic systems
• Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
• Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
• Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with outside vendors and businesses

Education and Experience Requirements:

• High school diploma or Bachelors Degree 
• Previous experience leading instrumental groups

Preferred Skills:

• Hold a degree in Instrumental Performance or Music Education 
• Minimum of three years teaching experience
• Wide variety of teaching level experiences (K-4, 5-8, and 9-12)

Physical Requirements: 

• Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings 
• Must be able to work during prolonged periods of sitting, standing and walking 
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times 
• Must be able to travel in state and out of state (if necessary for professional development opportunities)
