A Brighter Day Behavioral Health Certified Addiction Counselor



Under direct supervision of the Clinical Director, A Brighter Day Behavioral Health Center’s Addiction Counselors provide individual & group counseling to patients presenting with Substance Use Disorder, Alcohol Use Disorder, and/or Co-Occurring Disorders in the outpatient setting. The Addiction Counselor supports the clinical team with all aspects of programming for individuals receiving services within the program.


 


Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The responsibilities listed below are intended to provide insight into the Addiction Counselor’s general scope of practice. This is not an exhaustive list of job duties performed by employees functioning within this role.



  • Complete initial intake assessments, making referrals as appropriate

  • Provide individual and group counseling to individuals presenting with Substance Use Disorder, Alcohol Use Disorder, and/or Co-Occurring Disorders

  • Facilitate intensive outpatient group sessions

  • Facilitate 12-week DUI/DWI classes

  • Maintain a caseload of 15 clients

  • Assist patients with developing Person-Centered Care Plans inclusive of SMART goals in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR)

  • Document all treatment sessions within 24 hours of service delivery

  • Submit pre-authorization requests, concurrent authorization requests & ASAM Risk Rating Scales to insurance carriers at least 2 weeks before expiration to avoid disruption in treatment

  • Administer urine drug screens & breathalyzer tests, documenting results in patient’s EHR

  • Participate in weekly Clinical team meetings and individual supervision sessions

  • Completes annual trainings as required

  • Comply with all policies, procedures, regulatory guidelines & standards of care as defined by A Brighter Day Behavioral Health Center, Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Maryland Department of Health (MDH), Behavioral Health Administration (BHA), Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), Optum MD, and other licensing/accrediting bodies


Education and Experience



  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related Human Service preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years providing counseling to individuals diagnosed with Substance Use Disorder, Alcohol Use Disorder, and/or Co-Occurring Disorders

  • At least 1 year of experience in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)


Requirements & Skills



  • Must be certified by Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a CSC-AD or CAC-AD

  • Working knowledge of MS office and program management software

  • Comfortability with documenting in Electronic Health/Medical Records (EHR/EMR)



  • Ability to practice discretion, tact, confidentiality, and professionalism in all situations



  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of and familiarity with local and statewide community resources preferred
