Handley Regional Library seeks efficient and detail-oriented Administrative Assistant with experience using Microsoft Office / Excel , office supply procurement, and cash handling.
Hours per week: 20 (morning hours are required)
Rate of Pay: $13.50/hr
Reports to: Deputy Director
Fair Labor Standards Act: Non-exempt
Benefits: Includes prorated vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays
Position Summary
Performs administrative and clerical work under the supervision of the Deputy Director. Examines work routine on a daily basis to ensure that he or she is working as efficiently as possible. Makes suggestions to supervisor for improvement of overall procedures to improve efficiency and service. Performs other support tasks as required.
Major Duties
Supervisory Controls
Works under the supervision of the Deputy Director, although may operate with some independence once procedures are learned. Work is reviewed on-the-job, through regular conferences and annual performance evaluations.
Guidelines
Policies and procedures of the Handley Regional Library and the Five-Year Plan of the Handley Library.
Complexity
Work is routine to complex in nature and requires attention to detail, accuracy, and the use of judgment, discretion and tact.
Scope And Effect
Work performed is essential to the smooth and efficient operation of the public library and affects library employees and the general public.
Personal Contacts
Contacts are with the library personnel, bank, vendors, and general public.
Physical Demands
Building requires walking up stairs and ability to carry 25-pound box, load and use a
hand truck, bend, lift, and reach.
Work Environment
Work is performed in public library setting during regular business hours, as well as
being outside for short periods of time in all types of weather .
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Some knowledge of the purposes and functions of public libraries; ability to work independently if needed; ability to learn procedures readily; ability to schedule time and projects efficiently, ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; good organizational, clerical and mathematical skills; word processing ability, ability to prepare written materials for the staff or public; ability to use a calculator and copier; discretion in maintaining the confidentiality of personnel records; ability to be flexible in meeting demands of staff; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers.
Education, Training, and Experience Required
Four years of college or equivalent experience. Preferred: training in Microsoft Office software, experience in personnel or financial work.
