Job Description - Adult Education GED Instructor



  
Welcome to Grayson College. Grayson College is in the heart of Grayson County and provides a vital link for higher education.  GC offers small classes for personalized instruction, affordable tuition, caring, professional faculty, and the convenience of day, evening or online classes. The college serves approximately 5,000 students annually. Grayson’s reputation is highly respected by surrounding universities and industries as an excellent source of quality graduates who bring specialized, skilled and much-needed talents to the workplace.
 
Adult Education GED Instructor (part-time):   Teaches multilevel High School Equivalency (HSE) classes, administers student assessments, and performs other administrative duties to support student success. This position is funded by a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission. 

The schedules are listed below: Currently one person teaches both classes. Candidates will be considered for one or both classes.
 

  • Location 1- Sherman/In-person

  • Days/Times- Tuesdays & Thursdays- 3-5p

and/or


  • Location 2- Main Grayson College campus (Denison)/In-person

  • Days/Times- Tuesdays & Thursdays- 6-8:30p

 The pay rate for this position is $22.00 per hour.

Responsibilities:

  •  80% Teaches multi-level HSE classes for the required number of hours per week. 

  •  10% Prepares and submits lesson plans. 

  •    5% Attends required staff meetings and professional development training. 

  •    5% Performs other job related duties as assigned.

2. Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations relating to higher education and grant administration.
3. Works closely with program director, data coordinator and other staff to serve participants and comply with program requirements.
4. Stays current in the field of Adult Education and actively continues professional growth, including obtaining necessary credentials to perform required duties.
5. Adapts as needed to ever-changing state and federal requirements.
6. Remains sensitive to socio-economic and cultural factors that influence student recruitment, retention, and successful progress and completion of the program.
7. Promotes the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom.

Knowledge and Skills:
Experience:  Six months to two years of similar or related experience.
Education:  A Bachelor's degree. Some education coursework preferred.
Interpersonal Skills:  Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
Other Skills:  Be proficient in the use of computers (internet, emailing, etc.) and office equipment (copier, scanner, printer, etc.).
Physical Requirements:  Work includes sitting, walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, and travel to various classroom sites as needed.
Work Environment:  Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a typical classroom or office.
