Job Title: AFL-CIO Community Services & Labor Engagement Liaison

General Position Description:
The AFL-CIO Community Services & Labor Engagement Liaison serves as the primary bridge between United Way Ozarks Region and organized labor partners throughout the region. As a member of the Development team, this position is primarily responsible for managing and growing union-affiliated relationships and increasing labor participation in the annual campaign, while also providing critical support to union members and their families when needed.
This role requires a working knowledge of union structures, leadership dynamics, and the complexities of labor organizations. The Liaison works to strengthen partnerships, expand labor engagement and revenue, and ensure union households are connected to essential community resources. A portion of this position may be funded via contract/grant funds.
Essential Functions:
Labor & Union Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary liaison between United Way Ozarks Region, local labor councils, and union affiliates.
- Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with union leadership and members.
- Develop and implement an annual Joint Work Plan in collaboration with labor partners and United Way Ozarks Region leadership.
- Represent labor perspectives internally across United Way Ozarks Region departments.
- Attend labor council, union, and related community meetings as appropriate.
- Collaborate closely with the Vice President of Development to align labor engagement strategies with overall campaign goals.
Campaign & Fundraising
- Manage and grow union-related campaign accounts as part of the annual United Way campaign.
- Develop and execute strategies to increase labor participation in workplace giving.
- Support Development revenue goals tied to labor partners.
- Recruit, train, and support labor campaign volunteers.
- Identify new engagement, sponsorship, and fundraising opportunities within labor organizations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor and campaign records in the database.
Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive
- Serve as a United Way Ozarks Region representative for the annual food drive led by the National Association of Letter Carriers.
- Coordinate volunteers, logistics, and partner communications alongside Ozarks Food Harvest.
- Collaborate with internal teams and community partners to ensure successful execution.
Missouri Works Initiative
- Manage United Way Ozarks Region’s responsibilities associated with the Missouri Works Initiative.
- Participate in candidate interviews, needs assessments, and support services.
- Provide appropriate resources and follow up support to program participants.
- Track participant progress and assist with reporting and graduation processes.
Labor Worker & Family Support
- Connect union members and their families to United Way Ozarks Region and community resources during times of need.
- Participate in Rapid Response efforts for dislocated workers due to layoffs or closures.
- Promote upstream supports that strengthen working families and reduce crisis needs.
Administrative & Team Support
- Maintain accurate records and required reporting related to labor engagement and campaigns.
- Support labor-related gift processing in coordination with the Development team.
- Attend relevant United Way Ozarks Region and labor meetings and conferences as approved.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the Development team.
Required Qualifications/Skills
- Associates degree preferred.
- Must be a union member or willing to become one.
- Demonstrated understanding of organized labor structures and dynamics preferred.
- Experience in fundraising, account management, community organizing, labor engagement, or related field preferred.
- Strong relationship building and networking skills.
- Ability to manage stressful situations calmly and effectively.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database/CRM systems.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation .
- Ability to work on occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

This is a part-time, nonexempt position. 20 hours weekly with exact schedule to be determined with supervisor.
