South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM) is a human services organization dedicated to mobilizing community resources and implementing sustainable programs that compassionately help our neighbors meet basic needs, achieve self-sufficiency, and build community. We provide direct assistance (food, clothing, and utility assistance) as well as a variety of programs including service coordination, children and youth programs, and the South Hills Family Center.

 
 

Program Summary:

SHIM’s After School Program is designed to grow social emotional and academic skills among elementary-aged students through homework support and comprehension, fostering positive relationships and building a sense of belonging in a safe, and respectful multicultural space. The After School program runs during the academic year from October to May. The program operates Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 6:15 pm. 1st through 5th grade students receive snack and assistance with homework from 3:30 to 5:00 pm and participate in enrichment activities from 5:00 to 6:15 pm. 

 
 

Job Summary:

The After School On-Site Manager will oversee the onsite responsibilities of the After School program by monitoring the daily operations of the program, supervising staff and volunteers, and managing student wellbeing and programmatic activities. The On-Site Director will work closely with the Program Director to lead the program to ensure the academic and emotional development of elementary school students, primarily from immigrant and refugee backgrounds, is being met. This is a part-time position with onsite hours typically ranging between 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday through Thursday with additional hours flexed as needed. 

 

Essential Functions:

· Oversee the daily logistics of the After School Program and ensure safety and wellbeing of all students

· Maintain all program supplies, purchasing, and expense reports

· Offer onsite supervision and support to all staff, volunteers, and students

· Develop monthly calendar, weekly themes, and center rotation schedules

· Maintain programmatic documents and attendance reporting 

· Hire, train, and supervise all staff with Program Director

· Work collaboratively with and fill in for Program Director and After School staff, as needed

· Collaborate with Children & Youth Director to perform evaluations of the program impact, staff performance, and student development

· Establish positive and trusted relationships with students and families 

· Attend staff meetings, professional development trainings, and conferences

· Perform other responsibilities as requested by the Children & Youth Director

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Demonstrated leadership ability

· Knowledge of youth development practices and program management

· Experience working under pressure while maintaining a positive, calm attitude

· Proficient with budget management

· Demonstrated experience with case management, child development and community organization

· Sensitivity to work with a multi-cultural community

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with families, volunteers, colleagues and external entities 

· Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills

· Must possess initiative, productivity, creativity and problem-solving skills

· Ability and willingness to work evening and occasional weekend hours

· Ability to work as a team member and to be highly flexible 

· Knowledge of basic office computer software (Microsoft Office) and systems

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s Degree preferred (Preferred Degrees within Social Work, Counseling, Education, Nonprofit Management) 

o Relevant experience or education within youth development, education, social emotional support, and program management will be considered 


Requirements

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Fingerprint Clearance or Pennsylvania ACT153 Waiver 
  • Pennsylvania Criminal Clearance 
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance 
  • Mandated Reporter Training 
  • NSOR – National Sex Offender Registry  

Salary Description

$21-$25 per hour
