Aftercare Coordinator - Part-Time

Job Description - Aftercare Coordinator - Part-Time

Join Our Team and Make a Lasting Impact on Young Lives at Vogel!

Are you passionate about engaging communities and supporting families in need? Vogel, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of homeless children in Dallas, is seeking a dedicated part-time Aftercare Coordinator to join our team.

As an Aftercare Coordinator at Vogel, you will plan, schedule, and lead safe, nurturing aftercare services for enrolled children while their parents and caregivers attend essential Mental Health appointments, Family Support services, and parent education programs. Partnering closely with clinicians, family support staff, and early childhood teams, you will foster a welcoming environment where children feel secure, engaged, and supported. If you have a background in working with children and families and a passion for making a positive impact, we want to hear from you!

This is a part-time, nonexempt, onsite position offering $20.00 – $25.00 per hour, working approximately 20 hours per week. Hours are primarily weekday afternoons (Monday–Friday, with availability needed between 2:00 PM – 7:30 PM based on schedule needs), with occasional Saturday hours as programming requires. Please note that this position may require support across our assigned Vogel program locations.

What we do

Vogel is a well-established nonprofit organization located in Dallas with a history spanning over 36 years. Our core mission is centered around providing exceptional care and early childhood education for young children from homeless and domestic abuse shelters, all within our NAEYC accredited child care facility. Our innovative approach works to support both children and their parents through a two-generation strategy, offering resources that set families on a path toward a brighter future.

What you’ll do

  • Coordinate aftercare operations for scheduled appointments and after-hours programming, confirming childcare needs, staffing coverage, space, and supplies with participating departments.

  • Provide direct childcare and emergency childcare coverage for Mental Health and Family Support programming as assigned.

  • Recruit, schedule, and guide staff and volunteers supporting aftercare hours, verifying clearances and orientation requirements.

  • Maintain active supervision and cultivate a safe, trauma-informed, and welcoming environment with age-appropriate activities and positive behavior guidance.

  • Develop, maintain, and distribute monthly aftercare calendars, weekly rosters, and attendance logs; communicate schedule updates promptly to authorized staff.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for families, communicating warmly and professionally while strictly protecting child and family confidentiality.

  • Follow all Vogel protocols for attendance tracking, child transitions, authorized pickup, health and safety practices, and incident reporting.

  • Identify service gaps and proactively recommend program enhancements based on family participation and feedback.

  • Assist the Director of Volunteers and Community Outreach with administrative and logistical projects, including Resource Room organization, in-kind donations, and volunteer or agency special events.

  • Uphold Vogel’s mission, Employee Handbook, and 30 Culture Fundamentals in all daily interactions.

What will make you successful in this role (skills)

  • Experience working with young children and families in a childcare center, afterschool program, or early learning environment (3+ years preferred).

  • Some college coursework completed; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Human Services, or a related field preferred.

  • Deep empathy and understanding of the unique needs of families experiencing homelessness and trauma, with the ability to provide responsive, trauma-informed care.

  • Knowledge of early child development, health and safety standards, and positive behavior support strategies.

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, with sound judgment and follow-through.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort learning internal scheduling and reporting platforms.

  • Flexibility and collaborative spirit to adapt to shifting family needs and aftercare schedules across Vogel program sites.

  • Additional duties as needed.

Why us?

Vogel is dedicated to providing top-notch early childhood programming for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years, as well as their families, who have been affected by the traumatic effects of homelessness. By joining our team, you can play a pivotal role in positively impacting these children's lives during their crucial formative years. Together, we have the power to change their lives forever.
