Job Description - Afterschool Academic Math Coordinator (Grades K5)

Location: Based out of Piedmont office, supporting all LaAmistad afterschool program locations (View Map)
Schedule: Part-Time | 29 hours/week
Typical Work Hours: Monday–Thursday, Friday flexible
Start Date: July 2025
Reports To: Instructional Coach

What You’ll Do


Curriculum & Instruction



  • Design and implement a research-based afterschool math curriculum aligned with K–5 standards.

  • Prepare on-site staff and volunteers to deliver effective instruction through training and resource support.

  • Collaborate with the academic team to adapt instructional strategies across subject areas when needed.

  • Provide on-site assistance to field and office teams to ensure consistent program delivery.


Assessment & Data Management



  • Identify student learning needs in collaboration with staff and volunteers.

  • Oversee math assessments—scheduling, proctoring, scoring, and data input.

  • Analyze assessment data to track progress and inform individualized support strategies.

  • Maintain accurate student records and monitor program outcomes.


Volunteer & Staff Training



  • Lead engaging training sessions for volunteers and staff on math strategies, student engagement, and instructional tools.

  • Create professional development materials and foster a supportive learning culture.


Family & Community Engagement



  • Coach parent liaisons to understand and communicate academic data effectively with families, supporting ongoing learning at home.


What You’ll Bring



  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (preferably in education or a related field).

  • Experience working with K–5 students, especially in math or STEM environments.

  • Familiarity with math assessment tools and instructional strategies.

  • Background in working with English language learners and culturally diverse populations is preferred.

  • Strong data analysis skills to drive instructional decisions.

  • Ability to train adults and lead engaging sessions for both staff and volunteers.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Adaptability, a team-first mindset, and commitment to LaAmistad’s mission.


Additional Details



  • Work Hours: Part-time (29 hours/week), primarily between 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM during the school year.

  • Meetings: Regular attendance required for weekly L-10 team meetings, monthly staff check-ins, and location-specific team meetings.
