Job Description - Aquatics Lead

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Aquatics Director and Director of Aquatics and Youth Development, the Aquatics Lead will assist with planning, organizing, and supervising day-to-day programs and activities of the aquatic program, focusing on safety and quality standards. This is a 15-20 hour/week part-time position, and you should expect to have hours scheduled for administrative tasks as well as

lifeguarding, teaching, and leading classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ensure staff and patrons follow all safety protocols and procedures.
  2. Assist in hiring, training, supervising, and scheduling lifeguards and swim instructors.
  3. Ensure lifeguard staff has the proper equipment at all times and in good working order (i.e., rescue tube, fanny pack with mask, gloves, and whistle).
  4. Plan, organize, and execute aquatic events and swim lesson programs.
  5. Ensure daily pool maintenance and cleaning responsibilities are accomplished and accurately recorded as directed.
  6. Supervise swim instructors to ensure classes begin and end on time, record attendance, assess swimming skills, and distribute level slips/progress reports.
  7. Respond to and resolve customer complaints and concerns.
  8. Work with the Aquatics Director to ensure profitable class enrollment and class sizes, including responsibilities such as adding, merging, or removing classes from our swim lesson schedule with approval.  
  9. Manage program registration to ensure all participants on a waiting list receive reasonable accommodations.
  10. Understand compliance with local, state, and federal regulations in pool operations.
  11. All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven work history in aquatics supervision and leadership roles.
  • A current YMCA Lifeguard or American Red Cross Lifeguard (including CPR/AED) is required.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor preferred or willing to obtain within one year.
  • Preferred educational background in aquatics, recreation, similar field, or equivalent experience.
  • Applicants possessing some college experience are required.

  • Must be able to coordinate a variety of large and small tasks simultaneously and handle tension and stress in a positive manner.

Schedule:

This variable hourly position is approximately 15-20 hours per week, including weekends and evenings.
