Description

The Alfond Youth & Community Center is seeking a dedicated and energetic individual to join our team at our Benton location as an After School Program Assistant. You’ll play a key role in planning and leading activities, mentoring youth, supporting staff, and ensuring our programs meet both organizational standards and State of Maine licensing regulations. POSITION SUMMARY: Assist the supervisor in planning, implementing, supervising, and facilitating a complete and diversified educational, social, and recreational program and activities for the members in accordance with the mission of the Alfond Youth & Community Center and the State of Maine Licensing regulations.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with the ASP Site Supervisor to complete the registration process, staff group assignments, and activities.
  • Help to identify and manage child behavior issues and assist the ASP site supervisor with communicating to parents/guardians any concerns or documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Youth Activities Specialists weekly on best strategies for large group management and implementing academic, recreational, and social-emotional activities.
  • Observe and Assist the Youth Activities Specialists in organizing and implementing activities with groups.
  • Work with ASP Site Supervisor on staff scheduling, planning, implementing, and supervising programs and activities. To include monthly themes, special events, summer events, special guests, etc. 
  • Assist with supervising various program areas as needed.
  • Follow all program procedures and guidelines in conjunction with the Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Maintain safety, cleanliness, and appearance of area and equipment.

Requirements

  KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED. 
  • CPR & First Aid Certification

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in childcare, group social work, recreational field, social education field, and/or outdoor or camp programs.

  • Temperament that encourages confidence, trust, and respect from the members, staff, and public within the mission of the AYCC. 
  • Excellent internal and external customer service and communication skills along with an understanding of youth development.

WORK SCEHDULE:

  • Part time at 25 hours; Monday through Friday 12:30pm - 5:30pm

Salary Description

$15.25-$17.16 per hour
