We are seeking an experienced baker with at least one year of previous experience in a bakery. You will be responsible for opening and closing the bakery some mornings and evenings, baking fresh menu items, setting out the pastries and preparing pastries and other baked goods for the following day. It is also the baker's responsibility to ensure the quality of the goods being used is up to par and make note of when supplies are running low so that an order can be made. Cake decorating experience is preferred. Examples of work will be requested.
IT STARTED WITH A CARDINAL TATTOO
John had one. Thomas too. Jim knew this was more than just a coincidence. Strangers with the same uniquely red bird as their totem--it was a sign of things to come.
It turned out, Thomas, John and Jim also shared a dream: to open a bakery that brought the best baked goods to their friends, family and neighbors in Rockaway Beach. The food would be familiar, yet unexpected. They started testing recipes. First came the Mexican Hot Chocolate cookie. Then the Malted Chocolate Chip. And then, their first sales.
In the spring of 2016, they opened a counter at Uncle Louie G’s in Rockaway Beach. Customers responded, and more treats joined the menu. Brownies, pies, and our biggest seller, The S’mores Pie.
Soon the cardinal needed a bigger nest. And in 2018, Jim, John and Thomas opened their own storefront: Fat Cardinal Provisions in Rockaway Beach. Sandwiches, soups and salads joined the menu, along with coffee, hot chocolate and other surprises. Products and goods are
proudly made and sourced from New York City businesses. As always, all baked goods are Fat Cardinal originals.
