Status: Part Time, 10 hours/week

Salary Information: Annual Minimum Salary-$36,977.20 (For 0.25 FTE)-Annual Maximum Salary-$62,847.20 (For 0.25 FTE) 

Hiring Range: $36,977.20 (0.25 FTE) - $49,899.20 (0.25 FTE)

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Pro-rated based on hours/week.

Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) was founded as a 501(c) (3) non-profit medical institution in 2005 aimed at increasing access to health care in medically underserved areas of the Pacific Northwest.

The University currently offers the degrees of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Dental Medicine, Master of Arts in Medical Science, and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy enrolling over 550 students annually with plans to develop other programs and/or colleges. Interprofessional education partnerships with other universities adds another 100 students to the population. The campus includes 300 employees with academic programming spread over a five-state region.

PNWU is located in Yakima, WA, a city of approximately 95,000 located in the south-central part of the state near the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains in a major agricultural and outdoor recreation region. General Summary:

The Assistant Dean for Preclinical Education (0.25 FTE, Administration) is responsible for assisting the Associate Dean for Preclinical Education in managing the personnel and administrative operations of the Office of Preclinical Education. A primary focus for the Assistant Dean will be providing leadership and direction for COM faculty professional development and for the preclinical advising program. The Assistant Dean for Preclinical Education, in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Preclinical Education, serves as a leader in the COM, and in leadership roles in COM committees and activities. 

Essential Job Functions:

Administrative:

  • Work closely with the Associate Dean of Preclinical Education for administrative oversight and continual improvement of the preclinical curriculum (required and elective); the COM strategic plan; COM faculty recruitment, professional development, and retention; and COM student advising
  • Serve as Vice Chair of the COM Curriculum Committee
  • Provide input for COM and University reports including the annual Program Student Learning Outcomes and Strategic Plan reports, accreditation reports to COCA and NWCCU, and preclinical education reports to the dean and board of trustees
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Preclinical Education to address concerns of student professionalism and professional identity formation
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Preclinical Education, the Office of Clinical Education, the Office of Graduate Medical Education, other PNWU academic programs, and academic support offices
  • Attend and participate in monthly COM Dean’s Council meetings
  • Other administrative duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Preclinical Education 

Administrative:

  •  Work closely with the Associate Dean to maintain academic standards and quality within the COM
  • Work collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Preclinical Education, Associate Dean for Clinical Education, and the Assistant Deans for Clinical Education for curricular integration across all four years of medical school’s educational program
  • Work with the Associate Dean on scheduling and evaluation of COM preclinical courses

Research and Scholarly Activity:

  • Ensure instruction in research and scholarly activity are embedded appropriately in the preclinical curriculum
  • Participate in research and scholarly activity 

Service to the College and University Community:

  • Serve as a faculty resource
  • Serve on committees of the COM at the discretion of the Dean and Associate Dean
  • Serve on University committees at the discretion of the President
  • Demonstrate concern for society by being active in community affairs
  • Be active in regional and/or national professional organizations in your specialty or discipline
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and based on departmental need

Requirements

Education:

• Required: Doctoral Degree (DO/MD), a PHD in a relevant discipline from an accredited  university, or a relevant doctoral degree in another healthcare discipline  (e.g., Doctor of Physical Therapy) from an accredited university

Experience:

• Required: 4-6 years, with a faculty appointment in at minimum rank of Associate Professor preferred. Additional education may be substituted for years of work experience

Strong organization, interpersonal, and  planning skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in a team and flexibility to  work with others in a variety of circumstances; ability to problem solve by analyzing issues  and creating action plans; ability to manage projects and people and  prioritize and self-direct workflow; ability to work with and manage different  computer programs and databases; and ability to schedule activities and/or meetings
