Job Description - Barista

Water’s Edge Coffee Barista – South Haven


Job Description


Part-time hourly, ranging from 1-14 hours per week based on proficiency, availability and need. In-person responsibilities and on-call availability


1. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES


1. Customer Service and Community Engagement



  • Create “wow” moments that leave a positive and lasting impact on our customers.

  • Greet customers warmly and engage them with genuine care and enthusiasm.

  • Assist customers with their orders, provide product suggestions, and support special orders or requests.

  • Build trustful relationships with customers to encourage return visits.

  • Respond to customer questions effectively and efficiently, maintaining a helpful and approachable attitude.


2. Beverage and Food Preparation



  • Prepare and serve coffee, tea, and other specialty drinks following established recipes and quality standards.

  • Ensure quality service and products for customers by adhering to safety and sanitation procedures.

  • Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and other coffee shop equipment.

  • Warm and serve pre-prepared food items as needed.


3. Operational and Merchandising Duties



  • Stock products and maintain product displays according to merchandising standards.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including countertops, equipment, and seating areas.

  • Monitor inventory and restock supplies as needed to ensure seamless operations.

  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.


4. Team Collaboration and Store Support



  • Work collaboratively with other team members and volunteers to ensure smooth daily operations.

  • Assist in training new baristas and volunteers as needed.

  • Support Water’s Edge Coffee’s mission by contributing ideas to enhance customer experience and meet ministry goals.


5. Sales and Cash Handling



  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately and efficiently.

  • Process cash, credit card, and mobile payments, ensuring correct change and receipts.

  • Follow proper cash handling procedures and complete end-of-shift reconciliation.



2. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possesses a heart for ministry

  • Demonstrate a willingness to share your faith, reflecting the values and mission of Water’s Edge Coffee

  • Responsible, reliable, and consistent

  • Positive attitude and pleasant demeanor

  • Trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality


CHEMISTRY



  • Team player who works collaboratively

  • Willing to pitch in and support colleagues when needed

  • Pursues unity and conflict resolution in a biblical and respectful manner


COMPETENCE



  • Enjoy interacting with customers one-on-one and building meaningful connections.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent listening and communication skills.

  • Maintain good eye contact and display positive body language while engaging with customers.

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.



  • Willingness to learn and adapt to the ministry’s goals and customer service standards.

  • Proficient in necessary computer programs and digital platforms


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



  • Ability to stand for long periods.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, bend, and twist while handling products (up to 25 lbs.).

  • Capability to operate coffee shop equipment safely and effectively.


3. REQUIREMENTS



  • EXPERIENCE: Coffee shop experience preferred

  • EDUCATION: High school enrollment or diploma preferred

  • SKILLS: Barista skills preferred; tech competence preferred

  • BODY LIFE: Must be involved in LifeBridge with regular Sunday worship attendance

  • RESIDENCE: Living in/near South Haven preferred


4. RELATIONSHIPS



  • Hired by and Reports to: Water’s Edge Coffee Manager

  • Primary Work Relationships: Team Members & Customers
