 Seeking a professional, part-time bartender to provide exceptional service and enhance the dining experience within our distinguished senior living community.

Position Summary: 

Under the supervision of the Dining Room Manager, provide high quality customer service during all events including accurate accounting of all transactions and inventory.  Prepare standard mixed drinks and pour wine and beer. Provides high quality, friendly service to residents and guests of Royal Oaks in the dining areas and at special functions.

Brief Overview of Major Duties (please see below for full job description):

  • Responsible for preparing drinks quickly, accurately, and without waste. 
  • Serve and interact with residents and guests. Be friendly and enjoy mingling with customers. However, still must work quickly to handle a large volume of drink orders and be familiar with the ingredients for special drink requests.
  • Sets up and services individual beverage locations. 
  • Check identification of guests to ensure they meet the minimum age requirement for the purchase of alcohol. 
  • Properly handle cash or tickets. Accurately verifies all cash and liquor inventory with supervisor on a daily basis. 
  • Verifies cash register is programmed properly, according to Royal Oaks approved prices. 
  • Enforce all liquor laws. Bartenders must be aware of state and local laws concerning the sale of alcoholic drinks. Responsible to make sure customers do not drink too much alcohol. 
  • Attends to residents’ and guests needs when delivering beverages and checks to ensure guest satisfaction. Greets residents and guests in a friendly manner within two minutes of being seated.
  • Verify and account for all liquor inventory on a daily and monthly basis.  
  • Order and maintain liquor, beer and wine inventory; stock and prepare garnishes for drinks; maintain an adequate supply of ice, glasses, and other bar supplies; keep the bar area clean and sanitized. Washes the glassware and utensils after each use.
  • Develop and maintain attractive displays out of bottles and glassware. 
  • Controls usage of all beverage items as well as correct usage of equipment, tools, and service products by bar staff. Conducts monthly inventory, maintaining established guidelines. 
  • Reports to in appropriate clean and pressed uniform, for assigned location. 
  • Keeps the Food Service Management Team promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Must have basic working knowledge of cash register and cash handling procedures. 

Must have sufficient math ability to accurately count and handle money. 

Must have basic working knowledge of bar operation. 

Must have ability to follow directions and effectively perform the work. 

Is organized, able to multi-task, think creatively and adapt to different situations. 

Maintain a positive, customer service oriented attitude at all times. 

Strong knowledge of sanitary practices. 

Work ethic encourages strong urgency and quality in a team environment. 

Must be able to complete training on computer and/or other devices.

Maintain competency in the position and knowledge of trade/industry advances and new technologies.

Must be able to effectively communicate in English with all levels of staff, residents, and guests. 

Education and Experience:

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must have bartending experience. 

Preferably has a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferably has experience working in a formal dining environment.

Licenses and Certifications:

Must be TIPS Certified within 30 days of employment.

Obtains a Maricopa County food handler’s card within 30 days of employment. 

Physical Requirements:

Is able to carry/lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.

May need to operate a fire extinguisher.

Is able to assist in evacuation procedures.

Ensures organizational and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines, as well as federal, state, and local regulations are met and followed.

Assists in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment. Reports all deficiencies to the appropriate person, such as equipment problems, need for repair or special needs of residents.

Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures without causing harm or risk to self, others or property.

Has ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.

Consistently complies with Arizona State Department of Health Service standards. Ensures the safe and proper handling of all food items according to HACCP. Adheres to safety practices and procedures. 

Attends and participates in training activities, meetings, and seminars as required.

Bar Procedures

OPENING THE BAR 

You are responsible for doing the following before opening your bar. 

1. Verify the following items according to the inventory sheet: 

a. The amount of cash issued to you 

b. The cup inventory 

c. The liquor inventory 

d. Receipt of a shot glass 

2. Initial the inventory sheet. 

OPERATING THE BAR 

The following are the only products to be sold at a Bar: 

§ Cocktails 

§ Wine 

§ Imported/Domestic Beers 

§ Soft Drinks and Bottled Water 

§ Food from the Acorn Grill

Do not pour any liquids from one bottled to another. 

Do not open liquor bottles and cup sleeves in advance.

Do not re-use cups. 

The remains of any bottle stays in it until it is emptied into a shot glass for the next customer. 

Open bottles as you work and only open what you will actually use. 

RECYCLING 

Dispose of all used paper and plastic drink containers. 

Dispose of all empty aluminum cans and glass bottles in the appropriate containers.

Do not recycle liquor bottles. 

CLEANUP 

Clean bar-top, back bar and wipe all bottles. 

No used paper or plastic containers are to be stored in back or under the bar. 

THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS. 

CLOSING THE BAR 

Prepare for inventory verification. 

Keep all discards. 

Wait for authorization from the manager on duty before you leave your Bar. 

Do not leave the premises until your cash to inventory has been reviewed. 

Any deviation from the above outlined instructions will result in disciplinary action.
