Before/After School Counselor

Description

The Westfield Area YMCA is looking for caring, supportive and responsible individuals to join our team as Before Care and/or After Care Counselors for school age children (K-5th) at the following locations: Westfield, Garwood, or Mountainside. We are seeking multiple candidates to work various shifts Monday through Friday between the hours of 7am - 9am and/or 2:30/3:00pm - 6:00pm. Flexible schedules available.

Counselors are expected to assist the Coordinator and Classroom/Group Supervisor in all aspects of planning, development and execution of the program daily activities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Accompany children (to playground, and exterior of building) in order to supervise activities, such as outdoor play and fire drills.

- Must be able to set up the classroom for activities in a safe manner.

- Assist with transporting of children by bus, as needed, always following bus policy and procedures.

- Help plan free play and learning center activities.

- Use positive reinforcement and ensure a fun and safe environment for all participants in the program.

- Be enthusiastic and encourage children involvement.

Pay

Minors:  $15.50 per hour

Adults:  $15.75 - $18.50 per hour, commensurate with education and experience

Requirements

Must be a minimum of 16 years of age

Basic experience working with children preferred

Ability to work as a team with other YMCA staff members
