Position Overview:
The Early Childhood Instructor will plan, prepare and teach place-based, bilingual and Spanish-language environmental education programs throughout the Eagle Valley with a focus on early childhood (ages 2-6). The instructor will help Walking Mountains expand its mission and programming to underserved populations, especially to Spanish-speaking audiences. The instructor works closely with the Community Programs Coordinator to plan program offerings. This is a 12-20 hour-per-week, part-time position. Some weekday morning hours are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Instruction and Curriculum Development (75%)
Instruct regular bilingual and Spanish-language early childhood environmental education (ECEE) programming at a variety of preschool and partner locations in the Eagle Valley.
Work with a variety of program audiences including young children, teachers, parents, and caregivers to provide high-quality programs and activities.
Present environmental education and natural science content in an engaging, developmentally appropriate manner.
Prepare programs with the appropriate materials, props, tools, etc.
Plan and lead other Spanish-language family programs as needed.
Program Facilitation (25%)
Collaborate with the Community Programs staff to create, translate, and improve ECEE curriculum and program options, under the guidance of the CP Director and CP Coordinator.
Recruit and promote family participation in programs and help to expand ECEE partnerships.
Serve as a liaison for families, teachers, and caregivers.

Requirements
Required:
Fluent in Spanish and English;
At least 2 years of early childhood experience;
Able to drive between program sites within Eagle County;
Enthusiasm for the natural world and sharing and exploring nature with children;
Excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English;

Preferred:
Degree or certificate in early childhood education, education, natural science, or equivalent experience;
At least 1 year of environmental education experience
Work Environment:
The Early Childhood Instructor works in an open-office environment at the Walking Mountains Science Center in Avon, CO, with some remote work options. Program responsibilities span Eagle County, from East Vail to Dotsero, and require using personal transportation or driving an organizational vehicle to educational spaces. Off-site programming may occur approximately 75% of the week. The Early Childhood Instructor primarily teaches outdoors during all seasons and in all weather conditions. Saturday programs may be required, but the schedule is flexible.
Compensation:
$24-27/hour depending on experience; up to 20 hours/week
