This position will support acoustic detector development and performance for marine mammals in the American Northeast. This is a one-year limited position, with potential for extension contingent on funding. This technician will work closely with lab members from the Marine Bioacoustics and Behavior Lab (SeaBABEL) headed by Dr. Michelle Fournet.
Duties/Responsibilities
Support ongoing pinniped acoustics research project.
Conduct acoustic analysis and assist with surveys in the field.
Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
This role requires vessel handling, field data collection, data management and quantitative computer based analysis.
The applicant will be working in R and possibly other programming languages to train automated marine mammal detectors (phocids and odontocetes, possibly more) and should be comfortable with programming, or have demonstrated ability to learn these skills.
Experience with bioacoustics research and marine mammal fieldwork required.
Detail oriented and able to work independently.
Required Licenses & Certifications:
Current Vessel (boat) License and required training to operate a boat in NH and Maine waters.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Compensation Pay Range:
$20 per hour
