Job Description - Boston Writers of Color (BWOC) Program Manager (Part-Time)

GrubStreet is the leading literary arts center in the country, located in the Seaport District in Boston, Massachusetts. We are a passionate and dedicated team of professionals who take pride in our work and are committed to creating a warm and supportive work environment. We are currently seeking a Boston Writers of Color (BWOC) Program Manager (Part-Time) to play a key role in helping GrubStreet to support our mission.



The BWOC Program Manager serves as the primary point of contact for BWOC members and oversees all communications, program planning, and community engagement for the group. This role includes managing member inquiries, coordinating quarterly events and programs, maintaining the BWOC online presence, and collaborating with GrubStreet staff to ensure BWOC members have access to meaningful professional development and community-building opportunities. This is a part-time position averaging about 10 hours per month or 2.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities


Communications



  • Manages the [email protected] email address

  • Responds to BWOC member communications regarding general questions and feedback, events, BWOC-specific programming, and scholarships

  • Oversees content, format, and distribution of the quarterly BWOC newsletter

  • Manages the BWOC Facebook group page, including:

  • Approving new member requests

  • Posting updates and opportunities on a weekly basis

  • Responding to comments or questions as needed


Events and Programs



  • Plans, schedules, and facilitates quarterly online BWOC events and programs (4 total), with registration admin handled by GrubStreet staff

  • Recent examples include: A Literary Editor's View—On Submissions, Publications, and the Importance of Building Community; The Author-Agent Relationship; Exploring Arts Administration as a Career; Writing Goals for the New Year: Project Management Session; Turning Research into a Larger Story

  • Plans and hosts one annual in-person catered social/professional development meetup at the GrubStreet space. Registration admin is handled by GrubStreet staff.

  • Meets quarterly with GrubStreet Education team to coordinate BWOC meet-ups at upcoming GrubStreet events

  • Distributes post-event surveys and collects feedback

  • Experience with event planning and execution.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with and enthusiasm for the arts.

Position Status: Part time; 10 hours/month (avg. 2.5 hours/week)


Compensation: $30/hour


Position Reports to: Director of Faculty & Fellowships


Location: Boston (Seaport); Hybrid
