Job Description - Box Office Customer Service Associate
Summary:
Join the dynamic SFJAZZ team as a Box Office Customer Service Assistant and become the face of exceptional customer experiences! Under the guidance of the Box Office Manager, you'll serve as a key representative, assisting guests with retail and ticket sales at the vibrant SFJAZZ Box Office and Store.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and dependable individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, excels at multitasking, and embodies professionalism while bringing warmth and energy to every interaction. The ideal candidate is punctual and brings proven experience in customer service, sales, and cash handling—preferably in a box office or live events setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as a customer service representative for SFJAZZ at the box office and retail store.
Sell SFJAZZ and visiting presenter event tickets, classes, merchandise, and memberships using Tessitura ticketing software.
Communicate with patrons and members via phone, email, and in person.
Reconcile cash, credit card, and check revenue, and tickets issued at the end of each shift.
Maintain the appearance of the Box Office space and SFJAZZ retail store; restock merchandise as needed.
Provide ticketing and customer service support at concerts and events in Miner Auditorium, JHL, or other venues.
Assist with gift membership processing as needed.
Use chat support platforms to troubleshoot digital concert issues.
Communicate with coworkers via Slack during streaming show support.
Sell digital memberships and content while supporting live shows.
Insert customer support feedback into departmental tracking at the end of digital shifts; answer box office emails.
Process donations and assist with community outreach ticketing.
Support Box Office Managers with ticket donation processing.
Assist with special administrative and research projects as assigned.
Requirements:
2–3 years of box office and customer service experience required
Punctuality and reliability are essential
Experience in sales and cash handling
required
Box office or live events experience strongly preferred
Experience with Tessitura or other ticketing software preferred
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Familiarity with digital customer support platforms (e.g., chat, Slack) preferred
Availability to work long and irregular hours, including evenings and weekends
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Gmail preferred
Retail and inventory experience is a plus
Working Conditions:
SFJAZZ operates on a performance schedule of Thursday–Sunday, with additional rentals typically Monday–Thursday.
Main season: September through May
Festival and Summer Sessions: June through August
Regular schedule includes Thursday–Sunday nights and occasional daytime (matinee) or rental events.
