Job Description - BYUH Store Cashier/Social Media Specialist

Students may only have 5 open job applications at a time.

Work Experience:

Entry-Level (Foundational)

Work Experience Description:

Suitable for students with basic foundational knowledge and little to no practical experience, ideal for freshmen or sophomores who have completed only introductory courses.

Provide friendly and accurate cashiering and customer service for BYUH Retail Stores, including the BYUH Store (Cellphones and Graduation areas) and Mini Mart. Process transactions, assist customers, and maintain a clean and welcoming retail environment that reflects BYU–Hawaii values. Support marketing efforts by creating and managing social media content, promotional materials, and campaigns. Most hours will be spent cashiering, with two to six hours per week dedicated to social media.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist customers in a courteous and professional manner.

  • Process returns, exchanges, and merchandise inquiries in accordance with store policies.

  • Maintain clean and organized checkout and sales areas; stock, tag, and display merchandise as needed.

  • Provide information regarding products, promotions, and campus branding.

  • Create and manage engaging content for BYUH Retail Stores’ Facebook and Instagram accounts.

  • Develop and implement marketing initiatives to promote products and events.

  • Design promotional print and digital materials and produce video content using CapCut or similar tools.

  • Monitor social media engagement, respond to messages promptly, and track performance metrics.

  • Ensure consistent branding across all platforms.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
     

Qualifications

  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

  • Marketing experience preferred.

  • Experience with Canva and CapCut preferred.

  • Creative, self-motivated, and able to generate engaging content independently.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow branding guidelines.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift light to moderate merchandise.

  • Willingness to work assigned shifts consistently and provide advance notice for conflicts.

  • Availability to work Saturdays at the BYUH Store and Hukilau Marketplace.

  • Work primarily on campus at the BYUH Store and Marketplace; hours scheduled around class commitments.
