About the Programs:

Building Strong Families (BSF) is a prevention-focused program supporting families with children at risk of homelessness or housing instability. BSF is rooted in JFCS’s mission to serve vulnerable community members of all faiths and backgrounds with dignity, empathy, and respect.

Job Summary:

The Building Strong Families Case Manager – Part Time will provide targeted case management and financial counseling to families with young children enrolled at United Way Suncoast Quality Childcare Initiative sites. This role is designed to help families avoid homelessness, strengthen household stability, and reduce disruptions to their children's education. The case manager will assess needs, develop stabilization plans, and provide supportive services that address housing, employment, and financial goals.

This position requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of funding criteria, and the ability to establish trusting, non-judgmental relationships with a diverse client base. This is a part-time position (20 hours per week).

Requirements

  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized case management services, including financial goal setting and budgeting support.
  • Assist families in applying for financial assistance and ensure documentation for disbursements is accurate.
  • Provide referrals, advocacy, and follow-up to connect families with needed resources.
  • Develop and monitor integrated stabilization plans in collaboration with United Way Suncoast (UWS) and partner organizations.
  • Conduct family assessments using standardized tools.
  • Track and document services, progress, and outcomes in accordance with program standards.
  • Coordinate with the BSF Coordinator and UWS on communication and performance reporting.
  • Ensure timely submission of program reports, including outcomes related to housing stability, income, budgeting, and employment.
  • Participate in training and team meetings to ensure program fidelity and quality improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or a related field.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in case management, housing support, or financial counseling.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with families facing housing insecurity and complex challenges.
  • Knowledge of community resources, financial assistance programs, and public benefits.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfort with electronic recordkeeping.
  • Spanish language fluency preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strongorganizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to establish rapport with clients in a culturally sensitive,      non-judgmental manner
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency with computer systems and client databases
  • Ability to manage multiple funding streams and adapt processes accordingly
  • Team-oriented with a capacity for independent work and problem-solving

Training Requirements:

  • Mandated reporter training (child and adult protection)
  • Confidentiality, ethics, and professional boundaries
  • Awareness of duty-to-warn and emergency response protocols
  • Familiarity with crisis intervention, housing-related services, and trauma-informed      care
  • JFCS- and accreditation-required onboarding and annual training

Physical Requirements:

  • Desk work with computer usage for extended periods
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally 
  • Occasional irregular hours and capacity to work under pressure 
  • Full range of motion and corrected vision, hearing, and speech (or reasonable accommodations)
