Belfast Community Co-op, whose mission is to bring locally sourced, reasonably priced, organic and natural products to all, is looking for a Cashier to join our team!

Starting at $16.12, this is a Part Time position (under 30 hours weekly*)

Belfast Community Co-op cashiers perform their tasks with accuracy and efficiency while providing customers with friendly and helpful service. Cashiers connect customers with the community efforts and ownership opportunities that being part of a cooperative is all about. Everyone is Welcome!

General Expectations of All Workers

• Provides exceptional customer service to internal & external customers, both in person & via phone:
• Responds promptly and honestly to customer inquiries
• Greets customers with a smile and friendly demeanor
• Communicates respectfully
• Wears any required uniform (nametag, apron, chef coat, etc.) so as to be easily identifiable to customers and able to work safely (hair covering, closed toed shoes, etc.)
• Asks for help from co-workers and provides help to customers and co-workers as needed.
• Works efficiently and safely
• Takes initiative and works as a part of a team
• Approaches work with a positive attitude
• Collaborates with others to find solutions and accepts solutions once determined
• Continues to learn and develop knowledge as it relates to the position, co-op, and industry
• Demonstrates regular and dependable attendance
• Follows department procedures and SOPs

*Minimum weekly hours for all Cashier positions is 23 hours or three 7 hour shifts

Requirements

• Basic math (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication) and customer service skills
• Excellent command of spoken and written English to include effective communication
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and establish and maintain cooperative working relations with peers, employees, vendors, and the public.
• Ability to ensure compliance with applicable laws and Co-op guidelines, policies, mission, goals, and practices.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in handling confidential materials and matters.
• Experience with computers, Point of Sale systems, and ECRS Catapult preferred
• Familiarity with natural foods; basic understanding of retail concepts and the retail industry.

Preferred (but not required) Skills:

• Knowledge of Cooperative Principles and Business module
• Experience with ECRS Catapult
• Ability to use POS and spreadsheet programs
• Familiarity with natural foods and retail concepts
• Experience with computers, such as email and word processing
• Ability to work with diverse staff and customers in a fair and supportive manner
