Job Description - Center for Reproductive Health Registered Nurse

Maine Family Planning is seeking a part-time Center for Reproductive Health Registered Nurse. This position is based on a 3-4 day work week. 



The Center for Reproductive Health Coordinator is responsible for the skills and leadership necessary to meet goals and objectives of the Center for Reproductive Health, on-site clinical services in Augusta. The CRH Coordinator ensures the delivery of high quality, patient focused health care and provides direct and support services to patients in a manner consistent with clinical protocol and Maine Family Planning’s mission and values.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Patient Care and Support



  1. Conduct patient intake interviews and provide education on pregnancy options, birth control methods, aspiration and medication abortion, and post-abortion care.

  2. Support and monitor patients during and after procedures, including those under sedation, evaluating for signs and symptoms of complications.

  3. Distribute and administer pre- and post-procedure medications per protocol and provider order; ensure accurate documentation and adherence to medication administration guidelines.

  4. Triage same-day patient issues and provide directions to CRH staff to facilitate efficient clinic workflow.

  5. Assist CRH providers in delivering excellent, evidence-based abortion care (aspiration and medication), both in-person and via telehealth; enhance service offerings such as LARC provision, STI testing, and vasectomy coordination.

  6. Follow up on patient care concerns with FP providers and staff providing education, and problem-solve issues related to CRH policies and best practices.


Clinical Operations and Facility Management



  1. Perform lab tests, track lab results, and manage lab supplies according to protocols.

  2. Assist with preparation and breakdown of exam rooms and procedure trays; clean, sterilize, and wrap instruments.

  3. Track, stock, and manage clinical equipment and supplies, including emergency medications and sedation-related equipment.

  4. Ensure proper maintenance and cleaning of sterilization equipment, supporting compliance with infection control protocols.

  5. Coordinate clinic inventory including ordering, logging, and stocking of all medical supplies and medications.


Sedation Services



  1. Partner with the CRH Manager in the ongoing development and oversight of sedation services.

  2. Assist in training staff on sedation protocols and monitor patients during and after sedation procedures.

  3. Manage sedation-related medication and equipment, ensuring availability and proper storage.


Supervision, Training, and Leadership



  1. In conjunction with the CRH Manager, supervise CRH support staff (on-site and remote) through regular evaluation, feedback, training, and mentorship.

  2. Assist in the hiring and training of new CRH staff and participate in onboarding and continuing education efforts.


Administrative and Compliance Responsibilities



  1. Ensure compliance with all applicable State and Federal regulations (e.g., CLIA, OSHA, MSDS, biohazardous waste disposal).

  2. Monitor and manage the clinical EHR inbox to ensure timely responses and continuity of care.

  3. Assist in preparing charts, completing paperwork, and maintaining accurate patient records.

  4. In Conjunction with the CRH manager, ensure the CRH site is prepared for National Abortion Federation (NAF) site visits; maintain updated policies and procedures to ensure alignment with NAF guidelines.


Research and Data



  1. Collaborate with staff and external partners on abortion-related research studies, support data collection, chart review, and reporting.

  2. Crosstrain in administrative duties, including appointment scheduling and study tracking.

Qualifications Needed for Position:


Experience and Skill Requirements: The following experience and skills are considered essential:



  • Three-five years of experience required in program management and health care, preferably in family planning and abortion care;



  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills; ability to provide quality services to meet the individual needs of patients;



  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member;



  • Flexibility and a desire to work as part of an interdisciplinary team to meet the needs of patients;

  • Demonstrated project management skills, ability to work independently and with excellent follow-through in specific area of expertise;

  • Ability to balance quality health care programming, excellent customer service and productivity;



  • Excellent computer skills, organizational abilities, and attention to detail



Education and Knowledge Requirements: The following education requirements are considered essential:



  •  Registered Nurse
