  • Schedule: 3 days a week

  • Location: Toledo, Ohio-

    • Two days at Nexus Health Care, 1415 Jefferson Ave

    • One day at Navarre Park Family Health Center, 1020 Varland




Position Summary:


 Neighborhood Health Association is seeking a part-time Certified Doula to provide compassionate, comprehensive support to pregnant individuals enrolled in the Village Care Doula Program. The Doula will serve as a key member of our integrated care team, providing client-centered care coordination, education, and advocacy throughout pregnancy, delivery, and the postpartum period. The Doula will also assist with outreach, enrollment, program facilitation, and documentation to ensure program quality, compliance, and growth.


This position offers an opportunity to serve vulnerable and diverse populations, reduce health disparities, and positively impact maternal and infant health outcomes throughout Lucas County.


 


Key Responsibilities:


Direct Client Care & Support:



  • Maintain an active caseload and provide direct Doula services, including prenatal education, labor support, and postpartum care.

  • Build trusting, supportive relationships with clients to empower them in making informed decisions about their care.

  • Assist clients in accessing healthcare, behavioral health, housing, legal, employment, and social service resources as needed.

  • Monitor and document client progress, needs and care plans while maintaining compliance with agency, grant, and program requirements.


Care Coordination:



  • Coordinate services and collaborate with medical providers, social service agencies, and community partners to ensure comprehensive, integrated care.

  • Follow up on missed appointments and assist clients in overcoming barriers to care.


Community Outreach and Engagement:



  • Actively engage in outreach efforts to identify and recruit eligible individuals, including high-risk pregnant women, justice-involved individuals, and other vulnerable populations throughout Lucas County.

  • Represent Neighborhood Health Association and the Doula Program at community events, partner organizations, courts, homeless service providers, and healthcare facilities.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with healthcare providers, social service agencies, and community partners to foster seamless referrals and expand access to services.


Education & Group Facilitation:



  • Co-facilitate educational groups and support sessions for program participants.

  • Assist in scheduling, planning, and preparing group sessions, including meeting space, supplies, assessments, and refreshments.


Program Administration:



  • Complete timely and accurate documentation in compliance with program guidelines, contracts, and grant requirements including in electronic medical records.

  • Assist in data collection for program quality improvement, compliance monitoring, and reporting.


Other Duties:



  • Participate in required training, team meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and operation of the Doula Program.


 



Position Requirements:



  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Completion of Doula certification program

  • Ability to complete credentialling and privileging processes within the organization.

  • Certification in lactation education preferred or willingness to complete training.

  • Valid Ohio driver’s license, current auto insurance, and acceptable driving record.

  • Reliable transportation with the ability to travel throughout Lucas County.

  • Lived experience or prior work with pregnant and postpartum populations strongly preferred.

  • Experience supporting diverse populations, including individuals with high-risk pregnancies, justice involvement, homelessness, or substance use disorders.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clients, healthcare professionals, and community partners.

  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office and electronic medical records.

  • Commitment to cultural sensitivity, patient confidentiality, and ethical standards.

  • Demonstrates sound judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team.

  • Maintains professional appearance and demeanor appropriate to clinical and community settings.
