Summary/Objective 

The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) provides essential care to residents/patients of various ages under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Key responsibilities include assisting with personal hygiene, performing data collection and observation, monitoring vital signs, documenting in medical records, and supporting activities of daily living (ADLs). The CNA plays a critical role in responding to emergency situations, reinforcing patient education, attending to call lights, and ensuring a safe and clean environment. Reports directly to the RN or LVN on duty.

Essential Functions

Gathers accurate information regarding residents' conditions and reports any changes to the RN/LVN.

Recognizes and promptly reports any changes in residents’ conditions to the RN/LVN.

Accurately documents vital signs, weight, intake, and output (I/O), and care provided in the medical record.

Safeguards the confidentiality of resident records in accordance with hospital policy and applicable laws.

Maintains licensure and job requirements, including satisfactory completion of all mandatory and annual employee in-services.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

Graduate of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant Program; certification must be administered through the California Department of Public Health’s Professional Certification Branch (PCB). California Health and Safety Code, Section 1337-1338.S. 

Must possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification, and Basic Life Support training; BLS/CPR upon hire  

Preferred Education and Experience

Graduate in good standing from a Certified Nursing Assistant program.
