CPIhealth is seeking a self-motivated, service-minded, and confident per diem Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist to join our team.

The CRNA works in collaboration with physicians and medical professionals at our Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) to administer intravenous, MAC (monitored anesthesia care) and general anesthesia prior to invasive procedures and/or surgical cases.

Core privileges include anesthetic management before, during and after a medical procedure or surgery by performing a patient assessment, preparing the patient for anesthesia, administering and maintaining the anesthesia to ensure proper sedation and pain management, overseeing patient recovery from anesthesia and caring for the patient's immediate post-operative needs.

The CRNA is authorized and therefore skilled in delivering comprehensive pain management and anesthesia care to patients. All the accepted anesthetic techniques and modalities including epidural, spinal, peripheral nerve block, intravenous sedation, or local administration of anesthetic agents are within the scope of practice.

Scope of Practice

Administration of anesthesia is performed under the delegation/order of the operating physician and in accordance with Texas Administrative code 193.13 (a) In a licensed hospital or ambulatory surgical center a physician may delegate to a certified registered nurse anesthetist the ordering of drugs and devices necessary for a certified registered nurse anesthetist to administer an anesthetic or an anesthesia-related service ordered by the physician, written policies and protocols developed and approved by the Credentials Committee, the Medical Staff Executive Committee, Nursing Administration, and the Governing Body.

Responsibilities

Pre-Operative Care

  • Performing and documenting a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient, including requesting consultations and diagnostic studies; selecting, obtaining, ordering, or administering pre-anesthetic medication and fluids; and obtaining informed consent for anesthesia.
  • Checking the readiness, availability, cleanliness, sterility (when required) and working conditions of all the equipment used in the administration of anesthetic agents prior to administering anesthesia.
  • Developing and implementing a safe, anesthetic plan.
  • Selecting and administering the planned anesthetic technique which may include but not limited to: general, regional, peripheral nerve blocks, local infiltration, and intravenous sedation.

Intra-Operative Care

  • Selecting, obtaining, or administering the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic, to maintain the patient’s physiologic homeostasis, and to correct abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery.
  • Selecting, applying, or inserting appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities for collecting and interpreting patient physiological data utilizing current standards and techniques.
  • Recommend or request and evaluate pertinent diagnostic studies.
  • Managing and performing all aspects of airway management and pulmonary status using endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, respiratory therapy, or extubation.
  • Recognize abnormal patient response during anesthesia, selecting and implementing corrective action and requesting consultation whenever necessary.
  • Managing emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering, or administering medications, fluids, or ventilatory support in order to maintain homeostasis, to provide relief from pain and anesthesia side effects, or to prevent or manage complications.
  • Evaluate patient response during emergency from anesthesia and institute pharmacological or supportive treatment to insure patient stability during transfer of care.
  • Releasing or discharging patients from a post-anesthesia care area and providing post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care related to anesthesia side effects or complications.
  • Ordering, initiating, or modifying pain relief therapy, through the utilization of drugs, regional anesthetic techniques or other accepting pain relief modalities.
  • Responding to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids or drugs, or using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques.
  • Documentation of patient information including but not limited to all hemodynamic parameters, interventions, medication administration in a timely manner.

Post-Anesthesia Care

  • Discharge patients from phase 1/2 and from post anesthesia care area.
  • Initiate and administer pharmacological or fluid support of the respiratory and cardiovascular system in order to meet hemodynamic parameters adequate ventilation and oxygenation, returning the patient to baseline parameters prior to discharge.

Other

  • Accurate accounting of all controlled substances, including Propofol, at the beginning and end of shift with an RN or other healthcare professional.
  • Advising personnel responsible for post-anesthetic care of specific problems presented by the patient's condition.
  • Follow safe clinical procedures and correct non-compliance issues in a professional manner.
  • Submit post-operative reports on patient's condition and maintain records of anesthetics administered.
  • Assist in the transport of patients.
  • Mentor, motivate and train peers and clinical staff.
  • Effective communication with staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the mission, values, and strategies of CPIhealth.

Requirements

  • Credentialed as an Independent Licensed Practitioner (ILP) the ASCs prior to providing care.
  • Advanced Practice Nurse Provider (APNP) certification and licensed required.
  • EMR proficiency required.
  • Desire to serve patients and be self-motivated while exhibiting sound judgment, intellectual honesty, appropriate interpersonal skills and the capacity to react to emergencies in a calm and reasonable manner.
  • Excellent bedside manner, emotional stability, and the ability to make decisions in emergencies.

  • Strong organizational, communication and analytical skills.
  • Excellent judgment.

  • Continuing Professional Education and Development required to maintain active licensure.

Licenses & Certifications

CREDENTIALING CRITERIA: To be eligible to apply for specified services as a Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Graduation from an advanced practice program that conforms to the requirements outline in Title 22. Part 11. Chapter 221 of the Texas Administrative Code.
  • Initial/Re-certification by the National Board of Certification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) or be actively seeking initial certification.
  • Current active state licensure to practice professional nursing (RN) in the state of Texas and the authorization to practice as an advanced practice nurse (APRN) in the nurse anesthetist category by the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Professional liability insurance coverage issued by a recognized company and of a type and in an amount equal to or greater than the limits established by the governing body.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).

Salary: $165/hour

Schedule: PRN, up to 24 hours biweekly (weekdays)
