Share you courage, confidence, and character with our Girl Scout members by serving as an instructor at our Camp Dorothy Thomas (CDT), Camp Indian Echo and/or Camp Wai Lani challenge courses. Using your leadership skills, excitement, and enjoyment of adventure, you will lead girls through our challenge courses (both low and high elements) and zip line. This is a part time positon. Scheduling will depend on programing. Primary workdays are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with the majority of programs on Saturday. If hired, you are expected to facilitate a minimum of two days per month from September through May. Must be able to attend Challenge Course training on May 29 and 30, 2025. Must be able to attend both days from 9am to 5pm at Camp Wai Lani. If needed, overnight accommodations are available at Wai Lani during the training at no cost.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsibilities
Lead challenge course safety instruction for participants grades K-12
Engage girls and adult members in team building activities
Instruct and encourage members as they participate in challenge course activities while monitoring safety at all times
Conduct safety and quality checks of challenge course
Be able to follow safety check protocols and procedures
Be able to follow the outlined standard emergency operating procedure
Follow proper safety checks of equipment including zip lines
Follow all camp policies and procedures
Maintain a positive attitude when dealing with girls, staff, and parents
Fill out all program reports, collect waivers, and complete roster check
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 18 or older
Previous experience working with children
Experience with climbing or other height related adventure is not required but preferred.
First Aid and CPR certified is preferred not required
Previous Girl Scout experience is preferred but not required
Physical requirements
Ability to climb, handle or carry challenge course equipment (including but not limited to poles, towers, cargo nets).
Ability to be comfortable working on a platform at a height of 40-feet or less.
Ability to lift 50-75 pounds with or without assistance.
Ability to perform work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently and 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching.
Hand eye-coordination and manual dexterity to utilize camp equipment.
Ability to work in a camp setting and work extended hours with daily exposure to sun, heat, and animals such as insects, snakes, bats, and horses, etc.
GSWCF expects to hire a minimum of 2 (two) part time temp staff - for this position.
