Position Summary



Reports to: Children's Ministry Assistant


Position Status: Part Time, Non-Exempt
Hours: Approximately 18 hours per week; Tues and Wed 8:30 am-12:30 pm, some weekday evenings 6:00-9:00 pm; one service on Sunday is preferred (8:30-10:30 am or 10:30 am-12:30 pm) and Sunday afternoons, 3 hours

The Childcare Lead is responsible for providing for the physical, emotional, and intellectual stimulation and safety of children ages 6 weeks-5th grade in Williamsburg Community Chapel’s weekday and Sunday programming.



Qualifications


The qualified candidate will profess and live a life that reflects a personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission of the Williamsburg Community Chapel. He or she should have an enthusiastic attitude and a personal call to work with young children. The successful candidate will have proven experience caring for young children. The qualified candidate will have the ability to adapt and interact with the variety of personalities and characteristics common to children ages 6 weeks-5th grade. Excellent verbal communication skills are required. First Aid/CPR training provided if not already certified. To comply with Virginia employment regulations candidates must be at least 16 years of age.



Essential Functions



  • Demonstrate a polite, friendly, encouraging, and courteous attitude to all children, parents, volunteers, and staff.

  • Be on time and present during the program.

  • Abide by all safety and other policies established by the Chapel.

  • Prepare classroom prior to the children's arrival, making sure the environment is safe and clean (cleaning products stored out of reach, no medications in diaper bags, outlet covers on electrical outlets, etc.) and that any needed materials and supplies are ready.

  • Lead and oversee volunteers in the classroom.

  • Greet each child when dropped off by parent(s)/guardian(s) and ensure each child’s belongings are labeled with his or her name.

  • Engage children in organized activities such as age-appropriate songs, stories, lessons, crafts, etc.

  • Follow all Chapel policies regarding diaper changing and assisting older children with bathroom use.

  • Straighten the classroom after the children’s departure for the day, including cleaning and disinfecting toys.

  • Communicate needs for supplies, snacks, etc. to the Children’s Ministry Assistant or the Children’s Ministry Director.

  • Report safety issues with the classrooms, equipment, toys, and playground as well as any concerns involving staff, volunteers, parents, or children to the Children’s Ministry Assistant or the Children's Ministry Director.

  • Attend one training session with the Children’s Ministry Assistant per semester.

  • Uphold the Chapel's Governing and Squaring the Church documents

  • Live a life that is consistent with the Chapel’s employee covenant.

  • Serve in other duties as assigned.

The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to lift children up to 40 pounds. The employee is frequently required to sit on the floor and/or in low chairs, to stoop, bend, and/or to kneel. A full range of motion is required. The employee is required to perform repetitive tasks requiring fine motor skills such as cutting paper, typing, and operating computer technologies.



This position operates in a classroom environment and occasionally outdoors on a playground. The noise level in the work environment varies from moderate to loud due to crying or excited children. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
