Classroom Assistant

Organization Overview:

EPACENTER is a creative youth development center in East Palo Alto that amplifies the creative potential in every young person. We harness the power of art, design and technology and culture to accelerate positive youth development outcomes for vulnerable youth in the City. EPACENTER offers free programming along four developmental pathways, including: 

• Arts education classes that help students develop their 21st Century skills like creativity, teamwork, and perseverance


• Art production programs where students produce works of high-quality works of art for sale and for public enjoyment 


• On-going support throughout their engagement with our programs to help them develop the socio-emotional skills that are needed to thrive.  

Our age-differentiated programs are led by professional artists, designers, musicians and technologists with programs taking place during the school day, after-school, weekends and during the summer. Through our programming, we are working towards an inclusive Silicon Valley where anyone can become a creative and innovative leader in any sector, and economic and social success is enjoyed by all. 

Summary:

The Classroom Assistant ensures that school-aged youth have a safe and well-organized experience in the classes and on the campus.   The Classroom Assistant provides a wide range of support activities, including but not limited to assisting Instructors with class setup and learning activities,  supervising youth on campus during transition times, and assisting with youth check-in/check-out procedures.  

Primary Duties:

1. Classroom Assistant.   Assist Instructors with classroom setup/cleanup, including preparation of art supplies.  Assist Instructors with classroom supervision, providing focused  attention to students as needed.


2. Campus Supervision.  Ensure youth are in their assigned places and following EPACENTER safety and behavioral guidelines.  Provide adult supervision during student free time, lunch and group activity times. Promptly address any safety or behavioral issues.


3. Registration.  Assist with check-in and check-out procedures to ensure a safe and controlled environment.


4. Student and Parent Interactions.  Provide information and guidance for individual students and/or parents as needed.


5. Other related duties as assigned.  

At all times EPACENTER staff are to demonstrate EPACENTER values and professionalism, and to act in accordance with EPACENTER policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

1. At least 1 year related experience working with school aged youth, particularly ages 6-14.  


2. Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating ability to guide and direct youth and build positive relationships with a wide range of people.  


3. Excellent reliability.


4. High School diploma or GED. 


5. Be 18-25 years old.


6. Must have reliable transportation.


7. Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred.

Schedule:

This position is a part-time temporary position for our 6 week, 5 days a week, summer program taking place from June 16th to July 25th 2025.  

Must be available Monday to Friday 8:00 am -6:00pm.
