POSITION: Coach - Flag Football and Volleyball

REPORTS TO: Director of Athletics

St. Matthew’s Parish School is seeking Middle School coaches for its after-school sports program in the following sports:

Flag Football and Volleyabll

The philosophy of the St. Matthew’s after school sports program encompasses the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of the student-athlete. We do not center purely on the physical skill of a player, but rather we are supportive, nurturing, and disciplined in our approach. At St. Matthew’s we strive to be competitive, but also allow for full participation by every member of the team. Our philosophy is one of inclusion; there are no “cuts." Everyone who comes out for a team and attends practices and games is considered an integral and meaningful part of the team. Our aim is to teach basic skills and strategy to further the potential of every athlete. We also want to instill teamwork and sportsmanship at every level. It is our belief that participation in sports helps a child develop not only physical skills and get exercise, but strengthen friendships, have fun, learn to play as a member of a team, value fairness and integrity, and improve confidence.

Program:

  • Teams practice and or compete 3 days a week (no weekends)
  • Practices run after school from 3:15-4:45-Coaches arrive 15 minutes before and leave 15 minutes after practice for set up and dismissal.
  • 8-10 games, plus possible playoffs -scheduled hours based on league schedule

Responsibilities

  • Attending all practices and games
  • Prepare and set-up Field/Gym for Practice and or Games
  • Coordinate with Referee
  • Manage equipment
  • Responsible for all aspects of directing the team’s practice and play in matches
  • Monitor players’ attendance and conduct during practice and matches
  • Maintain Student Emergency contact information in coordination with Athletic Director
  • Ensure First Aid Equipment is readily available
  • Maintain an open line of communication with students, parents, peers and Athletics management
  • Serve as a positive role model to the student athletes and parents
  • Working with the athletic directors on scheduling and team communication
  • Supervising students to and from games
  • Positive role model and provide direction to players of all skill levels, from the beginning player to the club player.
  • Teach skills through effectively planned practices at a level appropriate for each member of the team
  • Condition athletes appropriately for activities requiring endurance, strength and agility
  • Teach sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic and responsibility
  • Ensure schedules are communicated, rosters are kept up-to-date, and students are accounted for (e.g. coordinate with team parents and parent drivers, students ready for bus departure, remain with students until picked up)
  • Prioritize an environment of safety for our student athletes
  • Monitor study halls on rainy days, days there is no practice, and before games
  • Performs other duties as required

Terms of Employment

  • Seasonal
  • $3,000 to $4,100 Stipend and or Hourly rate of $28 to $38 per hour

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma
  • 3 year experience or more in related sport
  • CPR/First Aid certificates required
  • Proficient in Technology
